Zocor
Submitted by mswillow on Thu, 2006-04-27 14:19. I'm curious - is Zocor 80mg/day actually part of the protocol? As my cholesteroli is just fine, do I need it?

NO one is recommending
NO one is recommending statins for this protocol at this point, but MSi may be helped by statin drugs. It has an aintiinflammatory aspect which some find beneficial. Lifeontheice used a statin drug before antibiotics and felt it did a lot to reduce symptoms for her. She then stopped taking the statin and used antibiotics. Macrolide antibiotics are hard on the liver and so are statins. The combination MIGHT be useful from the standpoint of reducing inflammation for MS clients both from the disease itself and that generated by treatment (the inflammation happening that causes increased symptoms temporarily) BUT the potential issue of liver toxicity is a concern.
If you are a person using both at doctors prescription then be sure to expect liver function tests and avoid other things that stress the liver like alcohol. Also be sure to take COq to replace the coQ harmed by the statin drug as you need extra of this for your body. Your pharmacist or physician can guide you in this arena. If you take statins and antibiotics without physician knowledge, say from the internet, I say speak to your doctor about what you are doing. This should not be undertaken without monitoring.
I am just a nurse ( as cool as nurses are )so every thing I say should be cleared with your own doc as your case may be different....

I used to take zucor, and
I used to take zucor, and am now on lipitor (as well as the ABXi's).
I am on ABXi's for the long term goal, but I take the statins as they appear to give me noticable benefits to my MSi symptoms, now, untill the ABX's hopefully do their thing for me. I am not on Statins as part of my ABX protocol.
Apart from the liver issues, they are not contra-indicatory. (statins have some mouse research showing that CPni may not like them either)
