Wanted to get this in before vacation

Well, pulse #19 was so mild that I wanted to get the next one in before starting vacation.  Pulse #20 was completed on 3/12/2009.  I'll be really surprised if the post-pulse reaction sends me to the emergency room in Hot Springs.

Sounds like we're parallel

Sounds like we're parallel hd, my last pulse was also mild.  In fact I would say I had 0 reactions.  I don't have the pulse number handy but I believe mine was around 19 or 20 as well.  I'm anxious to see if that still holds true when it starts heating up here in Texas - last summer was God-awful, like one long herx from June to October.

Glad to hear you're doing well.

Diagnosed FMSi Feb '07.  2x/day: 600 mg NACi, 100 mg Doxyi, 500 mg Amoxicillini, 2000 iu Vit. D.  450 mg Valcyte.  250 mg Azi M/W/F.  500 mg 375 mg Flagyli pulses every 3-4 weeks.  Started CAPi June '07.

Well, the doctors keep

Well, the doctors keep saying that my M.S. is "atypical" because I don't share some of the key characteristics with others that have the disease.

For example, I don't have the difficulty with heat that afflicts so many people with M.S.  Don't get me wrong, I still sweat and am as miserable as the next person during the Texas summer, but the heat doesn't cause my M.S. symptoms to get any worse and it doesn't flatten me any more than it did when I was in my 20's.

I think some of that may be attributable to the CAPi, but I also have to believe being 20 pounds lighter has something to do with it (that much less blubber to act as insulation).

CAPi for M.S. 8/2007 - 3/2009.  Twentieth pulse metronidazolei + INHi completed 3/12/2009.  Intermittent treatment thereafter until 11/20/2009.

hdwhit,

Thanks for the optimistic update.  Would you mind describing the diet that you have adopted?  I also am following some dietary guidlines and wonder if it is similar to yours.

Thanks

Got this diet from an old friend, competitive bodybuilder, ex-military police officer and now personal trainer.  This diet was done specifically for my circumstances so it may not apply to you.  It's not intended for weight loss because he believes you cannot "starve yourself thin", but as part of a program involving nutritional supplementation and exercise, he believed it would help me get healthy.

  • Except on special occasions, drink only water.
  • Reduce the portions of meat and simple starches by one-half.  Replace the volume of food given up with fruits and vegetables so that you're not eating less.
  • Nothing is "off limits", but whatever you eat, consume moderate portions.
  • Eat a variety of foods.
  • Don't skip meals; eat something for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  • Don't eat anything after dinner (i.e. no snacking before bed).

That's it.  Following this and exercising three times a week, I increased the amount of weight I could lift by 766% and the distance I could walk before feeling out of breath by about 1300%.  It also happens that I lost 23 pounds in 16 months.  For the 8 months after that my weight held steady.  I fell off the program during the 2008 holidays and gained some of it back.  I'm back following the diet and doing my exercise and the weight is coming off again, but I hate to pay for something twice.

Getting healthy really

Getting healthy really limits your sightseeing these days, HD!   How awful for you that now you only get to see the tourist spots and not the ERs.  Wink  Enjoy!

I know.  The ERs are so much more exciting.  I guess I'll just have to soldier on and be satisfied with visiting the Mid-America Science Museum, Riding a World War II-vintage DUKW around Lake Hamilton and touring Blanchard Springs Caverns since we probably won't have time to go to the Crater of Diamonds and look for gemstones.

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool pessimist and I'm having a hard time finding a down-side to the improvements that have resulted from the CAPi (as well as the exercise program and changes to my diet - since I started them all at about the same time there's no way to definitely say how much each contributed to my improvement).
