Thought you might like to know...

Whenever I send the welcome message out to a new member I get to see a serial number which indicates the number of people who have registered on the site.

At present we are 7 short of 1600.

Of course not all these people are active members, some have never posted but it just shows that the knowledge is spreading and that people are interested to find out what it is all about...

AAAAAnd that the feeling you get of being overwhelmed when you see how many new posts you are going to have to read before you log off is not because you are suffering from 'brain fog', but because there really are lots of messages to read which shows that our site is very popular and a great place to be, in spite of all its differences to other sites (or maybe that should be because of its differences).

And finally, the site will be three years old in two weeks time...

Thanks for sharing that

Thanks for sharing that info!  I know that I'm glad I found this site when I was searching and have shared my bounty with others.  I doubt this site has reached anywhere near the saturation it will, yet.  Wink

Michele- I lost track of

Michele- I lost track of the numbers since I don't seem to see a numerical listing any more. 1000? That says a lot, especially as lot's of folks use the site and it's information without ever signing up! We are about at our third birthday, so it's great to have a nice round number like that to go along. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the work you do greeting and orienting new folks. You are a very essential human first-contact at the site, and it's hard to imagine getting on if you weren't there doing the job for us. The work you've done on the Getting Started handbook is a blessing as well. You've made your mark here as one of the pioneers in this off-the-beaten-path direction.

Oh Shucks, people, I did

Oh Shucks, people, I did not post this in search of praise, I do what I am good at, feretting around in the background and I do it because I am grateful and service is a way of saying thanks.   There are lots of people here who make valuable contributions that make me feel more secure when looking after my daughter's health and treatment and I want to thank all of them.

We are now close to 1600 registered members, although I'm not sure whether spammers have been discounted and removed from this number.   The 1000 figure could be the number of messages I have sent although I don't think it is quite that many as I did not start doing it until I'd been around for a year and others have helped me out at times too.

I'm not sure who can see the number of members we have, but I see it when I go to member's profiles and click on Write Private Message and then, as this is being processed, the number of the member appears briefly at the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

I'm delighted if humbled to be thought of as a pioneer on this site but truly I am nothing like the other pioneers who have taken so many chances in the 3 years this site has been going and shared their experiences with the more scientifically challenged amongst us.

It would be great if we could have a virtual party on our birthday....

Michele, a virtual party

Michele, a virtual party what a creative idea.  Let's see how many folks pick up on this one.  Any thoughts for the arrangementsSmile?

Well, obviously we can't

Well, obviously we can't have a proper party, but we could set a reasonable time for all to raise a glass to the future of Cpnhelp. We could find an appropriate image to post here and we could find some wise sayings, quotes or jokes to inspire us...

We could also bring a present of a small donation to the site...

Just some thoughts, maybe others might have some to add to this and we could pick a couple.

I don't know exactly which day next week the site is three years old, but maybe Jim will tell us.   In the mean time here are some times I suggest we might try to get online on whichever day it is.   It might be too much for the site for loads of us to be online together but we can try.

If your time zone is not mentioned here sorry, but the list could be long...

Have a glass of something, (maybe not wine if you are at work) and raise a toast to Cpnhelp and its founders....

Maybe the time should be altered by a few hours: if I get up early, I sometimes see Pacific coast people still online, sometimes even Mackintosh in Chicago.  I don't mind just raising an orange juice, but at 10pm bst too many people are going to be at work in the US.

Here's what I did when we were one:

I suppose it depends what day of the week it is... I don't mind when; consider this a starting point for discussion...

I don't really have an exact "birthdate" except that I've been a member for "2 years 52 weeks." So I will declare Sunday, August 24, 10am EST as our official date and time. How's that?
