Looking back on the mental aspects of a Cpni infection is interesting. I am a very different person now. Years ago when I was first becoming ill with this infection, I was often stressed out and angry at everything. I had weeks when I was in the grip of serious anxiety (Porphyriai?). The past few years have seen an increase in a truly different person emerging---mellow, accepting, slow to get angry and calm in the face of chaos.
Certainly the years of suffering have strengthened my character but I do think the overall effect on my personality was chemical. Not feeling well for long periods of time plus all the disturbances in normal body chemistry added up to trigger all the old demons of my disfunctional past. Despite a few years of group therapy, the stress of the infection was too strong to resist and I became sicker, more anxious and more angry with each passing year.
Now that I am on the mend, my personality has become what I always hoped it would be.

Raven~ Glad to hear it! I hope you continue on the road to healing....
My experience is somewhat like yours, although you are further along the road to wellness than I am.
I have often felt like my whole body is "inflammed". Much what like the area around an infected splinter feels like. My whole body can feel that way, including my brain. I am irritable and feel awful in this state. (I'm sure many of you can relate).
As I begin to get well, I do have times when my body feels much more "at peace." Certainly I am not yet well, and have many symptoms, but at times my body is not inflammed and I am not irritable. This afternoon is one of those times (thankfully).
I'm glad you are on the mellow path. I find myself there at times too, and it is wonderful. May we all be there more and more.
Blessings to you,
Timaca

My husband calls me the "crabby woman" all the time. My response has been that if he felt like hell every day of his life, he'd be crabby too. That usually shuts him up. I try to watch my attitude but I get angry when anyone leaves a mess in the house because they don't realize that everything robs energy from my depleted body. I've tried to explain that but I don't think you can understand it until you've gone through it. I look forward to being more myself because I'm pretty fun loving.
Glad to hear that you are getting back to you.

Yes, when you have so
Yes, when you have so little energy and so much pain everyday chores and frustrations are amplified to be such huge obstacles. It is so easy to react with anger and despair. Hopefully, with treatment we can escape this hell as so many of us are doing.
And then having patience to get through such a long treatment is our next challenge. The good news is that those glimmers of wellness will come when we least expect it. And gradually our old self returns.
Thank you all for being such great companions on the journey,
Raven

Raven,
My mother has been a huge support in my CAPi and overall illness with CFSi. I told her about your signature say 98% better and she got so excited and of course so was I. I'm glad you're doing so much better and can't wait till I'm there. Makes me feel better that I'm actually doing something about it.
