Intermittant Protocol

Intermittant Thereapy~~~ There recently have been quite a few who have gone to intermittant therapy (hurray!).  I know in recent discussions comments are made "to refer back to their individual posts" to see what that consists of.  It is difficult sometimes to query this site for such specific information re each member.

Metronidazole(Flagyl) comparison to TInidazole(Tindamax)

Chanced upon this older thread started in June2006  I am bumping it up; http://www.cpnhelp.org/flagylvstinidazole< for reference and the original thread in context.

I am extracting a post that is very interesting to me and my situation.  Hope that some others may find it an interesting read as well.  Louise

might try coming off cap soon

Hello everyone. hope everyone is doing well on there capi journey.  In May I will hit my 1 year mark. Ive been doing well on the abxi and have little reactions on my 10 day flagyli pulses except for a little nasua and fatigue  once in a while. I still have some uretha and joint mild pain and a new symptom (mild chest pain here and there). But I can live with this. I was thinking about trying to get off the cap in May but not sure. symptoms come and go but are mild.  I excersice and lift weights just fine. I dont feel like my self before I got sick but what I wanted to know is if my body is ready to take over. Going off the cap is scary and feed back is appreciated. When I first started the CAP I was on the brink of suicide. the pain and sickness was over whelming.

Treatment change

Hi I started Azithromycin in December 3 times per week along with Vitamin D and sleep meds klonopin, neurontin, and trazodone (these sleep meds worked well for me in the past). I did fine with this and started the simplified Yasko  2 weeks ago and have been tired but overall able to function and felt good at times. I had a phone consult earlier this week and was switched to 100mg of Doxyi 2 times per day. I started yesterday and today has been awful. My GI is a wreck and I have had flu like symtoms including an awfule headache and nausea all day. Is this typical with Doxy?

Can bacterial cryptic form develop resistance to Flagyl?

Yesterday I took my first Flagyli 250 mg, no reaction. Today took 2 x 250 mg and started to wonder, is it possible to develop resistance to Flagyl if taken in small doses? I'll be increasing the dose in future pulses if tolerated. My dr wants me to take 500 mg x 2/day for 14 days a month eventually.

pneumonia vaccine recommended for ms. Any thoughts from everyone?

Just got a flyer from my isurance company reccomending a pneumonia vaccine for anyone with asthmai, heart diseasei, and msi .  Anyone have thought on this? B

Still Fighting to Take 3rd Abx. Stopping Biaxin for 1 month.

Well, it's been so long since I've posted, I'll be surprised if anyone even remembers me.  I've been fighting to get to take Flagyli (or similar) and my doc wanted me to take pyruvate and then take rifampin off and on (but not take flagyl).  I wasn't up for the rifampin off and on; still terribly confused by his desire to avoid flagyl and pulse rifampin, but went ahead and took the pyruvate.

I  vomited like I had food poisoning and had some other strong reaction on day 9 (or got the stomach flu?) and stopped taking pyruvate temporarily.  I got a similar reaction about a week later even though I hadn't started taking pyruvate again.  My gut instinct is that it was a delayed reaction, but I have no real idea.  I felt really sick and weird for a few days.

First CAP anniversar, progress report and thoughts...

It's hard to believe but I am on 13th month of CAPi treatment. I started on January 02, 2008, twicked my protocol a little for a couple of months. Since March'08 I settled on Doxyi 200 mg/day and Rifampin 600 mg/day. In Nov'08 Bactrim was added twice a day. 2 weeks ago I switched from Doxy to Minocycline. So, right now I am on Mino + Rif + Bactrim.

Antibiotics and non herx related effects

Switched from Mino - My Doxy Diary

My Doxyi Diary: 1.17-2.20.09 (I had been on minocycline since Sept. It had caused extremely painful wrists, fingers, shoulders and knees. I needed to see if Doxy would be more tolerable. It appears so far that it is the case for me. I also take Azith M-W-F. Last entry at top going downward to first entry.)

Backsliding...

I am in a quandry.  I am concerned I may be developing a resistance to doxyi and/or azith, is that possible? Or could it just be time for me to mix it up?

I am again very ill with severe bronchitis and/or cpni pneumoniae symptoms.  I am almost physically at the point I was in March of 2007 when I was first diagnosed (bed ridden, chest pain, deep bronchial coughing, very weak)  This is about the 3rd episode over the last 6 months (2nd within the past 2 months!)

In all honesty my improvements over the past year haven't been significant, other than a reduction in brain fog and a reduction in my FM symptoms.  As each month passes I keep adding to the mix..... I KNOW that is part of this process -- it just becomes more obvious how infected I must be.

Has anyone used clindamycin?

Just went for a bronchoscopy, second in 3 months was sent home with clindamycin 150mg 2 three times daily. Have been on azithromycin for 3 months. Numbers were 1140 down to 238. Still have congestion. Just wondered who else is using clindamycin and how it worked.

Should I take the Amoxiciiliian???

My poor body is protesting again. Basically, I have been ill since November 3rd with a severe bout of bronchitis, almost as bad as when I first became ill in Nov. of 2006.

Doc told me to double up on my azith and take it daily -- which I did. I also became SEVERELY constipated being in bed most of the month. Was starting to have "spells", nausea other wiggy symtpoms, so I took milk of magnesia... I got relief but it also threw my colon into spasms. Luckily I had some hycosomine from a previous "spastic bladder" after a bladder scope. The drug helped the spasms which I am contining to have 2 weeks later. I continue to have nagging pain in left descending colon area and splenic flexure area.

18 Months on CAP

Dec 24, 2008 marks the completion of my 18th month of treatment.  I am antibody positive for CPni and Bb.  I started treatment on bacteriocidal level of Doxycycline 400 mg/day for almost 4 months before cutting back to 100 mg BID and adding Roxithromycin 150mg BIDi daily.  Those first 4 months were incapacitating and perhaps advantagious it is water under the bridge and I would not recommend it to others.
