Starting Flagyl NOW

I've put off starting flagyli for ALMOST 3 YEARS for various reasons.   The last was because the doc wanted me to take Arimedex and didn't want confusion of side effects.  I eventually elected not to take Arimedex, however, and just now got the guts to start flagyl.  After 3 years, this is a BIG jump for me, so I'll probably be here looking for support if I find myself vomiting in the toilet...or...if nothing happens.  I don't know which would be worse.  I'm going to start slowly and hope for something in between.  I'm taking one pill as soon as I stop typing.

I've done quite well on only doxyi and Biaxin for almost 3 years, but imagine it is not a cure to only take 2 antibiotics...may not even be smart.  And I'm not suggesting anyone else wait that long to start flagyl, but I do want to say that even with only the two, I HAVE had slow steady improvement.  I do NOT fool myself to think the CPni is gone, but whatever the two abxi do to control it, it has been reasonably effective.

I am still very thankful for my doctor and this web site.  Unfortunately, I have been very negligent in getting on this site regularly, as I feel I should, to continue to learn.  Once I got the general gist of things, I seemed to have difficulty finding the motivation to search out more of the details as others of you have done.    Perhaps I'm just not much of a detail person.  I often wonder if  I may have an ADD personality of sorts as sometimes it seems hard for me to focus on any one thing too long.  Anyway, if there has been a radical change to the treatment, I'm not in the know now, so I will begin reading again to catch myself up.

Here goes.  I may have to switch to (forgot the name of the substitute for flagyl) if the flagyl does a number on me.  I'm already susceptible to depression.  And doxy and Biaxin gave me some real punch when I took them in terms of physical symptoms, so I am a little concerned what the flagyl will do regarding physical reactions.  But I'm moving forward like a soldier on a mission.

Thank you all for your support,

4dogday

Is "breaking the duck"

Is "breaking the duck" starting flagyli, completing a first pulse of flagyl or doing more than a beginner's pulse?  I've searched the site and seem to see different interpretations.  I'm thinking that just starting at all is a good definition, since it is such a big jump to just do it, but perhaps completing a first pulse is a more concrete definition?  Anyway, I took one pill of flagyl so far....debating how many to take today...and wondering what I need to do to officially really break the duck!

I was even thinking that breaking the duck would be an appropriate way to express one's CPni titers coming down....just one more way to term progress...

Ha!  I never thought about

Ha!  I never thought about a 4 dog DAY that way, but that would make sense.  Perhaps in Alaska or Siberia?  A 4 dog day in my world is spending the day doing the following over and over: (dogs bark) let dogs in, (dogs bark), let dogs out...... tell dogs to be quiet.....(dogs bark)let dogs in, (dogs bark)let dogs out.....let dogs in, let dogs out... (dogs "hound" me for food) tell dogs to stop  hounding me for food....(dogs hound me for food) finally give up and feed dogs....tell dogs to quit hounding me for more food..... finally give and and give them treats....let dogs in, let dogs out.....walk dogs....walk dogs....etc.  A 4 dog night is very similar, it seems, except that I'm sleep walking (or trying to sleep) when I do it.  But it is better than a three dog night if the heat goes out in the winter, I guess. I remember well the moment I downed my first flagyli tablet.  I think I said, "Oh, God, what have I done?"   And it was just fine.

You have 'broken the duck'!!!  (Now, someone will have to explain that phrase anew for the most recent arrivals on the site.)   Let us know how it goes for you.

BTW: Is a fourdogday sort of like a threedognight, only colder? Wink

4DD, welcome back. The substitute for the flagyli is Tinidazole and it's  brand name Tindamax in the US., it is a newer medication an it is still on patent here in the US and is more expensive but kinder for some of us in some ways.

Hope you do well with the flagyl though, since you already have it in hand.

And three years on the duo of abxi will have done quite a bit on it's own so is a good place to start now for you with the nidazole to clean the situation up.
