Starting Cholestyramine

Paula has given the Chole a go.  As of Wednesday she was on about a quarter of a sachet.  At 4pm she would have a slice of rice bread with olive oil spread on it just before the Chole, to help the bile production, but most importantly to alleviate any reaction from the sugar in the sachet.
We have temporarily halted the Chole for a few days, as Paula would get the following symptoms for an hour or two after taking it:-
Cold feeling in her stomach throat and tongue, as if she had an overdose of peppermint oil.  She would get sore gums and teeth which was a bit like the sensation you get when eating an acidy sweet.
As she is so sensitive, the above symptoms are probably much more severe than what other people would get.  We plan to try taking the Chole at the 6pm time with a full meal, to see if this can disguise some of the above symptoms.  Don't worry, she won't be taking any supplementsi at that time - she will be taking the supplementsi at 4pm with the rice bread.  We plan to start again this weekend if she is up to it.
After getting the Bb diagnosis we haven't changed anything on the protocol.  She is still taking what is in my signature.
On Friday Paula had what she calls the biggest crash yet - I will update you soon about this, but if she doesn't improve as quickly as we would like, we may put a hold on further Chole until next weekend.
Mark.

Keep on trucking Mark, it was never going to be easy... You are doing a great job in a very difficult situation, let's hope that your sensitive handling of the situation bears fruit in the next few weeks.   It would be good to hear that the cholestyramine in helping in spite of the reactions.

Thanks Michelle.  Paula

Thanks Michelle.  Paula has started the Chole again.  She took half a sachet today and will increase it every day until she is on the full sachet.

Is it true that in the days that Chole is taken, there is no need to take Charcoal that day?  What does everyone else take - 1 sachets of Chole daily, or 2?

Thanks,

Mark

Take the chol and skip the char for now. If she can take two doses a day, great. I don't think one dose of either mopper is enough to bring down a significant porphyrin load.

Hi Mark, I take one packet

Hi Mark,

I take one packet of cholestyramine at bedtime during and a few days after pulsing now.  It seems to be all I need, basically, to manage the porphyrins.

I am now in day 3 of my 4th tinii pulse and the most I've noticed is a bit more fatigue than I had before I started, other than a few other symptoms I'm experiencing but it may be from the large project I've committed to doing before I began the pulse.

I haven't been around much because I'm doing quite well.  I'm not great but much better than I was a couple of months ago.  I've had some new symptoms which hopefully means I'm healing, but they are all tolerable, just a little disturbing at times.  (visual, joints, aches)

It seemed that for me, the first couple of months were really great when I added the supplementsi, pulsing got difficult, then much better now which I attribute to the chol so at 5 months into full CAPi I feel like I can manage this now and maybe begin to get more up time again.
