Query @ charcoal and Vit D?
Submitted by gracepartaker on Fri, 2007-03-23 17:33. I see Dr. Powell. So therefore I am off anitbiotics for now and on Vitamin Di. I have had incredible increase in energy which is such a blessing.
I am at 6,000 IU of Vit D and will stay there. Anymore causes severe depression (a very much not wanted side effect)
Also I am using the sauna and infrared light recommended by Powell to stimulate die off.
I am starting to use charcoal. I take 10 (250mg) capsules of activated charcoal at 3pm (2 hrs before and after meds and food) and again when I awake in the night.
I just ordered the powder kind (could not find the link to the chocalate mint flavored, if anyone knows it I would appreciate it) How many teaspoon/tablespoons equal to 10 capsules??
any comments about my amount would be appreciated? Do others take this much or more? What have been your results with charcoal?
After one hour of taking it it causes me to get weak with low blood sugar. If I were to eat a small something would that stop the charcoal from absorbing the toxins?
Also the Vit D is causing huge sugar cravings and I am gaining weight. Dr. POwell says I am coming out of hybernation. That sounds right but is no fun. Has anyone found anything to help with sugar cravings ? ( I have had them all my life except when I was on the antibiotic protocol)
Thank you so much for reading this and responding. I appreciate this site and Dr. Powell very much.
Blessings, Sally

The link for the chocolate-mint xerox toner... I mean charcoal powder, is this.
With the powder, you can simply take more (a scoop comes with the chocomint) to have more effectiveness. I suspect a tablespoon in water is a good dose.
You can't take any food or other things, other than water, with charcoal because it's action is mechanical: it has lot's of microscopic "holes" which bind up the fatty toxins. If you fill those holes with something else, food or vitaminsi or meds for example, not only do you miss the nutrition or medication, but you don't have the spaces for the toxins.
If you take glucose tablets maybe 1/2hour before, glucose is absorbed into the blood very quickly and should not interfere much with the charcoal. Your sugar cravings could be from porphyrins from increased die-off, hence more cravings with more D and more bacterial kill.
I personally found that only the scoop size doses of charcoal were effective at all for me. I have found that only cholestyramine powder makes a significant dent in my daughters porphyriai symptoms. It is a more effective binder of fat-soluble porphyrins, and can be taken closer to food as it's effect is a chemical binder, not mechanical. It is more expensive as it is an Rx, and can constipate, as can charcoal, but really works when done daily. Clearing these fat soluble porphyrins, as Basil has pointed out, requires regular use of either charcoal, cholestyramine, or a combo of both, to gradually bring down the overall load.

Hello raven
I'm also about to purchase a sauna. Which company are you going with? There is a few out here in So Cal. I have checked out. I can't wait as I feel this will be the last thing needed to get me well. I am a kickboxer but haven't been able to sweat and exercise in years so this will be a blessing from GOD...
I also forgot to mention, try adding some olive oil to your oatmeal if you eat oatmeal that is. It's very good and energizing.
thanks and be well

I have been considering the purchase of a FIRi (far infared sauna) for the past several years. However, doctors I have consulted with about it can only recommend the very pricey ones made of poplar, not cedar, plywood, etc.; such as these: http://tinyurl.com/2gfvpb
They are concerned about chemical out-gassing. So, if anyone knows of other safe alternatives, besides poplar; I certainly appreciate knowing about them, too.

Here's a site that has a good price on a two person one. They say the glues and finishes are non-toxic.The wood is hemlock firi. The ceramic infrared emitters are the best but some people use infrared lamp saunas. The brand I bought is Waterstar. http://www.poolwarehouse.com/far-infrared-saunas.html
hope this helps, Raven

I have just started using one of the one-person FIRi sauna's, the portable foldable cloth kind, from Xymogen. I was able to get a professional discount for them, about $286 shipped. There is a need for outgassing as you can smell the glues and solvents, but a couples days of running it for a couple hours in a well vented room seems to be rapidly outgassing it. They say it takes a week or two to completely outgass, depending on how sensitive you are to it. It really does get sweating going! I haven't been consistent enough with it to attest to it's impact on endotoxini, porphyrins, action with vitamin di and the like.

Thanks Raven, Jim, et. al for the URLs!
But talk about forgettory...like KitKat, I should be probably be cautious of saunas, too. Over a year ago, pre-CAPi, I had attempted a detox bath with a temp of only 104 degrees F. After only 5 minutes I started to pass out and could barely even climb out of the tub only to lie on the floor for 20 minutes, attempting to recover. Have never attempted another, since!
So, I suppose I really should try out a FIRi before even thinking about such investment. Thanks, guys

Janice, Sitting in a hot car is an innovative idea, but also a good way to kill yourself. Several people in this part of the country die that way every year.
