Private Space Experiment

In response to a request for a private place to store notes and such, or drafts of posts prior to posting them, I've initiated a new link called "my private space" under the "create content" menu. Your private space page has two text boxes you can use up to their assigned limit (to minimize load on the site).

Your text is not visible to anyone but you: but site administrators have full access and the option to delete your info there. This is to have a cross-check on spammer misuse and such. As in the legal disclaimer, all posted information is technically owned by www.cpnhelp.org, although we have no interest in lurking into anyone's private notes!

Remember, this is an experiment! We'll see how this goes, how much usage it gets, and whether it can be absorbed by our server comfortably. If I decide to quit the experiment you will get at least a couple weeks warning to save your material elsewhere.

There was an even more useful module called notepad, but notes showed up on the "recent posts" page even though not accessible other than by the person who created them. If there is anyone out there who is drupal-savvy (ie knows php)who wants to see if they can circumvent this, let me know.

Feedback encouraged!

 Okay, bugs to be worked

Okay, bugs to be worked out. The pages are all being created, but are listed as "unpublished" so you can't get access. I'll try and get them"published" as we go, and you should try again over the next days.

Hmm, now I'm seeing a bunch

Hmm, now I'm seeing a bunch of them in the "recent posts" list; and the one I clicked on was readable by me, which I don't think was the intention.

In any case, I don't see the point of this; if you have something private, wouldn't it be easiest to keep it on your own computer? Or maybe this is for people who are not in a position to have their own computers?

Not too private! I clicked

Not too private! I clicked on each one in 'recent posts' and all were accessible.

Its a bit annoying

Its a bit annoying because it clogs up the recent posts.  If I'm half way through writing something I just save it on my own PC.........Sarah

 Back to the drawing board...

I'm going to turn off the Private Space, just not the ticket. Some folks wanted a note taking space or way to work on a blog and save it without publishing it and keep it all on the site. This clearly is not it. So you'll have to continue keeping it on your own computer for now.

So save any notes you've made and I'll shut it down.

Thanks Jim K.  I applaud

Thanks Jim K.  I applaud your persistencei and acknowledge the challenges of learning a new language.  Those that do not see the sense of having this option are blessed with lots of computer user knowledge. I can understand that perspective as well.  I am coming up to speed slowly and do admire their fluidity in managing their text.

Personally am learning the ins and outs of this site by trial and error and that is OK.  Now that I have firefox available it seems that I can lift text in a way that was not allowed to me previously with Internet Explorer 6.

It was difficult previously not to be able to copy and lift into word half done responses to be completed later. That was my key interest.  Changing to firefox does demand relearning and for foggled minds may not be reccomended without someone to help you.

Jim K, Thanks again for your time and effort!  Louise

Thanks for trying Jim! It was a valiant effort. I've emailed the author of the notepad extension for help on how to avoid posts showing up in "recent comments". If he gets back to me maybe we can give that one a try otherwise no worries.
