Last time I blogged I was having some skin irritation on the back of my scalp. I thought I might have picked up some kind of mite or fungus so off I went to the pharmacy. (After consulting Dr. Google of course!) I bought a topical that has sulfur in it. It is a homeopathic treatment for Rosasea called Prosacea. After a couple of applications to the scalp, I noticed that all the red areas on my face had faded away. Duh! Seems it really works-even though I only applied it to the back of my head.
So those of you with Rosaceai [1] might want to try it. Smells like rotten eggs so I only use it at night. The skin irritation is going away but I did throw a lot at it---tea tree oil, oil of thyme and antifungal creme. I did show it to the dermatologist in the early stages at my annual check up but she just shrugged ??? and gave me cortisone cream. I would be interested to learn what effect sulfur has on inflammationi [2]. Will do some searching around.

Wow, Raven,
This is the opposite of what I'd expect from a fellow methylation-challenged capper.

Hi Raven,
Many rosaceans have had good luck with sulfur or sodium sulfacetamide based topicals. There are actually quite a few prescription based ones too:

And I've read quite a few good reports of Prosacea. Glad it works for you!!!

It is strange, I know KitKat. Thanks Red for the link. BTW, I should have my methylation tests back the first week of Sept. I guess sulfur was an ancient antifungal and antibiotic. I recall reading about the holds of old sailing ships being fumigated from pests with sulfur. "In the Odyssey, Homer describes the burning of sulfur (formation of SO2) as a way that homes were 'fumigated'." http://mattson.creighton.edu/SO2/SO2_Info.html [16]
Very interesting. Raven

Hi Janice and Raven, I have been thinking the same thing and was contemplating adding Prosacea to my list of this might work for my (ever so mild might just be a touch of neck and upper chest rosaceai [1]?? that get red and last for ever if exposed to sunlight (well a real long time, painless unless real burn. This is a pre-capi [3] observation.

Hi girls, SULFODENE is a product "for pets' that I bought in walmart; and it reads: Skin medication -for dogs- and an aid in treatment of hot spots, and associated with scratching, hair loss, redness". I bought it for my dogs and it also comes in a shampoo! And yesterday when I read Raven's story I remembered it and immediately put it on a red spot my husband is having! He said it felt like strong initially but then he said it was working! He even asked me to put some more tonight!
It is very well known that sulfur is used to fight fungi in skin! Thank you for the remembering tip! hope the pet version works just as fine!
God bless.
