iodoral and die off

  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Hi,

Dr. Powell recently upped my dosage of iodoral from 1 tab a day to 8 per day. 4 in the morning and 4 in the evening taken with ATP cofactors (high dosages of vit B2 and B3).

Am wondering if anyone here takes this much Iodoral and if they have had a negative reaction to it. I have basically been unable to do anything since starting on this dosage, I have had a huge viral HSVi [1] 1 flare up, my lymph nodes are really swollen and I have been crashing extra hard during the day, tons of jaw and face pain, really tender temples and horrible headaches. I was thinking this was die off but the viral flare seems a little weird. I was sort of under the impression that iodoral was meant to give me more energy. I have done searches on here about iodoral and most people say it is a pretty potent anti-everything.

just a general question about lymph nodes. when my lymph nodes in neck get swollen and painful like this, is that a sign that my immunei [2] system is dealing with infection and therefore is a good thing? or is it just a general flare, have never been very clear on this...

any thoughts appreciated, fyi i am not on antibiotics so it my rx wouldn't have to do with that. thanks!

Kelly - I'll be interested

Submitted by Daisy on Sun, 2008-08-17 11:21.

Kelly - I'll be interested to see the responses you get on this.  Sorry to hear you are feeling bad.  Hope you are better soon!

Will share this - I started Iodoral a while back (love it by the way).  Recently upped my dose and had a rather brisk reaction later that same day.

Reaction was similar to yours - for me, it felt like a RA flare - swollen and tender joints and lymph nodes, intense fatigue, also had headache, sinus pain, etc...  did bromine detox measures, went to bed early  and then boom - next day fine - so no RA flare.

My mind seems to be growing clearer and my energy better though ! Thankfully the reaction was short lived.  I hope it is for you as well!

Will also confess - when my husband was in the hospital for a month in Dec 06, I restarted a bad habit - diet Mt. Dew  - it was in the hospital vending machine and I needed a boost to get through the 20/24 hour days at the hospital for weeks on end.  Never did give it back up so I have likely been detoxing bromine like crazy and that may have been the cause of the reaction.  Probably would help to use the FIRi [10] sauna.  Hmmm - may go do that right now.

Thanks by the way to whoever brought Iodoral to the attention of the board.  One of the best things I have done for myself in a while...

Kelly - should have also

Kelly - should have also mentioned - are you doing anything to detox the bromine?  That really helped me move through the reaction to the increase in Iodoral.

Hi Kelly, I also work with

Submitted by raven on Sun, 2008-08-17 14:40.

Hi Kelly, I also work with him and we talked about upping the Iodoral dose.In the beginning, I had problems with detoxing at 25-50 mgs. Frontal sinus headache, weird stinky sweat (I mean really bad) and some fatigue for a couple of weeks. I did the FIRi [10] sauna and drank unrefined sea salt (1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon in 8 oz of water) while in the sauna and right after.Really helped. Don't do Iodoral therapy without the sea salt. Now I can take 100 mgs without much reaction but when I first bumped it up to that level I did have some die off reactions. The 100 mgs is supposed to be the safe zone for killing bacteria, viruses and fungi without disrupting the thyroid gland. And you should take it with the B2 and B3 as you mentioned. Bromine is the big pollutant that is removed by Iodine Therapy as well and other types of toxins such a brominated flame retardants and flouride. (Calif. has one of the strictest laws on flame retardants--as a result mattresses and furniture are all treated. There has been much debate in Sacramento about this as brominated flame retardants are being found in human blood and tissues)

How wonderful to have iodine to rid our bodies of these toxins and kill many types of invaders as well! I have noticed some viral flareups but they quickly subside. Perhaps the iodine flushes them out of the nerves and then kills them?

I am also in awe of how good my body feels since I began to supplement with Iodoral.

Daisy is right about the level of mental sharpness increasing. My typing is much faster too.

Thanks Daisy and Raven,

Thanks Daisy and Raven,

Took your advice yesterday and did an extra salt flush and then sat in the sauna. WOW i have never sweat that much in such a short time in there! it felt great. I am feeling a bit better  but still have the nasty new headache i have developed over the past week. I don't think I was doing enough of the sea salt. Are there any other ways to detox the bromide as the salt is the only one I know.

The sea salt is the only

Submitted by raven on Mon, 2008-08-18 12:15.

The sea salt is the only one I know of. And the sauna!!!But, you might try the Epson salt bath. 3 cups in a tub of hot (as you can handle it) water. Do this before bedtime and you will sleep better and wake with much less pain. Here's the link to more info:

http://www.epsomsaltcouncil.org/health_benefits.htm [17]

This is what got me through the first year of treatment. I was chilled and aching when I came home from work. Jumped into the tub with Epson salts and then to bed with a heating pad. In a few hours I was able to get up and get some dinner. It was my emergency rescue plan that seemed to put the brake on all those "feel like cr*p" symptoms in a matter of minutes. That and lots of C powder dissolved in water. And then the charcoal too. But it was hard to squeeze into my busy schedule. I used it when I was really miserable.

Best of luck. Know that you are in good hands.

Kelly - For the bromine

Submitted by Daisy on Mon, 2008-08-18 16:51.

Kelly -

For the bromine detox headache - in addition to the salt and sauna - I have found that Excedrin seems to work better than Tylenol or Advil... may just be me though.  I think the small amt of caffeine in the Excedrin vasodilates so the detox headache disappears faster...

Also - I have been using a dropper of Source Naturals Colloida Life Trace Minerals and Electrolyes in the water I drink in the sauna.  It's the one liquid trace mineral that I have tried that truly has zero taste when added to plain water.  Seems to give me even extra zip and replaces some good stuff!

You are right about the sweating and the sauna!  Iodine deficiency can actually cause people to become unable to sweat - supplementing iodine for most returns that natural perspiration ability to peak form !

Raven - Thanks for throwing out Dr. Flechas name in a previous post!  I listened to several of his Liberty radio talks posted online and learned a ton.   Some of the information on iodine he references that I have since read in Pub Med is quiet amazing!

 Found HERE [18]:

 "Bromide Detox Strategies

    1. Salt Loading [19]. See sidebar.
    2. Stopping iodine for 48 hours to rest the kidneys.
    3. Reducing the iodine dose temporarily, then working back up.
    4. Taking several grams vitamin C spread out throughout the day along with the
          [20]I [20]odine [20]Companion Nutrients [20].
    5. Drinking more water.
    6. Pulse-dosing (stopping and restarting iodine therapy.)
    7. According to Iodine users with skin symptoms, adding 25 mg zinc often helps."

Daisy, thanks for the tip

Daisy, thanks for the tip about the Source Naturals Colloidal Trace Minerals. Think I will send for some next time I order. That is my favorite brand of supplementsi [5]. Minai, thanks for the links. Stopping the iodine will help temporarily. I just chose to ride it out with the salt, sauna and some ibuprophen. Raven

Daisy are you willing to say more about their GABA Calm?  And do you have a link for some of the Liberty Radio programs, that is news to me.

Gaba Calm - sublingual Gaba

Submitted by Daisy on Wed, 2008-08-20 19:55.

Gaba Calm - sublingual Gaba cocktail.  Pop one or two under the tongue and it's a lovely and rapid little chill effect.  I should own stock.

[23]

HERE [23] is Flechas talks.  Covers verbally a good deal of what's in Brownsteins book on Iodine.  The moderator for many may be an acquired taste :) but Dr. Flechas is very good with his information.

Kelly - Sorry if we are hijacking your thread - Hope you feel better !
