did anyone try this?

i am normally against faddy eating (i've done them all!) and most of the time i reckon i'm ill so i should relax about this kind of stuff.

however, i saw someone i know with ME yesterday and she looked SO well i commented on it.  she said dairy-free diet and didn't have time to say anything else about it, she had to rush off.

did these benefits happen to anyone else?  i am a little tempted ....

Hi blackfoot, Steve eats

Hi blackfoot, Steve eats gluten-free and almost dairy-free, and I would say it has benefited him. Beyond that, it's important to take more aggressive steps to heal your gut so that eating that way isn't necessary in the long run. Steve had pretty bad symptoms of gluten and casein sensitivities, but after a couple of years of g/c-free eating and remedial measures, he is now able to sprinkle both offenders into his diet on special occasions with no problem.

My doc wants me to go on a dairy free, flour free, corn, soy, etc.  All I can have are frozen and fresh fruits and vegetables and meat!  Lettuce, onions, garlic stuff like that I can have.  Oh, I can also have honey and some nuts. I am really having a hard time with it but am trying.  I have IBSi [11] so maybe it will really help me.  It's called the Specific Carbohydrate Diet by Elain Gottschall.  Is anyone else on this diet?

Hi Lynn, I think Elinor is on that diet or has done it in the past.

Hi Blackfoot    I have

Submitted by farandwide on Mon, 2008-07-14 08:38.

Hi Blackfoot

I have followed a dairy free, bean/legume free, and gluten free diet for about 8 years.  Along with adding some good veggies and fruits, it immediately improved my condition some 8 years ago when I started following it and continues to help.

I have slacked off on being really rigorous about gluten and will occasionally let something wheat or flour based slip into my dietary regimen off and on.  But by and large it remains the same.

Many people are amazed that I do this but it really isn't hard to do.  Ample alternatives are available.

Blackfoot - My husband too

Submitted by Daisy on Mon, 2008-07-14 09:55.

Blackfoot -

My husband too has been on a similar diet with good results.  It's called the Best Bet Diet and it explains how the restricted foods cause molecular mimeocry to self proteins and create inflammationi [17].  http://www.direct-ms.org/bestbet.html [18]

Like John, he saw almost immediate improvement from removing eggs, dairy, legumes and wheat.  We also had his food allergies done and removed those items as well.  He did the diet hard core with zero cheating for 18 months.  The past six months he has cheated some and it seems his body is better able to tolerate the formerly forbidden foods.

When I tackled my own "autoimmune" disease, RA, I removed a ton of foods from my own diet including wheat, dairy, nightshades and ate mostly raw/lightly steamed vegetables.  It also made a huge difference for me too.
