http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25511729 [1] Drugs like acyclovir kill viruses only when they are in the active phase. The viruses lay dormant and activate over and over again. Research at Duke University may lead to a treatment to cause all the viruses to activate all at once, and kill them once and for all. A drug called antagomir would cause a cold sore to erupt, but then all copies of the virus could be eradicated once and for all. Getting rid of something like shingles would likely be trickier.

Janice, I can only imagine

Janice, I can only imagine if those of us with multiple Herpes-type infectionsi [4] had them all activate at once. Have the paramedics standing by???Smile

But hopefully this is very good news. Lets hope there is something coming out soon. I was wondering if there would ever be a way to eliminate these nasty viruses.

Thanks so much for posting this,

yes, the thought of all my

Submitted by ruthless1 on Sun, 2008-07-06 19:30.

yes, the thought of all my cold sores & cancur sores erupting all at once would be a bit of a downer to say the least.  When I was going through a divorce my entire bottom lip & down my chin was a complete eruption of oozing mess.  It was then I went for the FAmvir anti viral.

Thankfully now, I am able to keep things under control with L Lysine 2.5 gms a day.  If I have done lots, my body stresses & then I take a Famvir on hand just in case!

I hope they do find something someday to get rid of the pesky devil.  The EBVi [9] from what I understand, never goes away completely either.  It can was & wane which is  apain in the butt!~

thanks for the info

Ruth, based on some others experience with these sores, I believe there is a good chance this may go away.

I would hope that taking

I would hope that taking the proper antibiotic at the same time would keep the outbreaks at the tingling stage. If shingles, cold sores, internal herpes and EBVi [9] all broke out at once, I would want a general anesthetic. And I would hope they were eliminated for good.

I went to see a specialist

Submitted by ruthless1 on Tue, 2008-07-08 15:28.

I went to see a specialist in the STD realm, referred by my MD & was tested to be sure what form of Herpes I had, type 1 or 2 or both.  I learned alot including that even when the virus is in the tingly stage - shedding; one can still pass it on even though you may not have an actual complete outbreak.  We can pass the virus to different parts of our own bodies too.  It is very highly contagious.

I also learned that type 1 can also show in your genital area.  I had thought that area was specifically for type 2 herpes.  Not necessarily soo.

So, there you have it;a little nugget I learned from a specialist.

peace
