Doing things by halves

I just took my jaunt over to the Pharmacist. After the last debacle I was a bit of a coward and took this scrip to another branch of the same group which is smaller so I figured that there'd be less people to get embarrassed in front of.

As it turned out, when I arrived it was empty so I didn't have to adopt the disguise but I did have a chance to have a long chat with the Pharmacist. What a nice man.

I explained all about CAPi [1] and why I was having to pay for my own meds and he couldn't have been more helpful. He got onto the computer and went through all the different Generics available and came up trumps. I've actually paid less this time for all 3 drugs than I did for 2 before. For those in the UK I think it even works out cheaper than ordering in off the web although I'm still doing research on it.

So I guess my next question is, why are the Azith so darn expensive? The Pharmacist couldn't understand it either. He tried every supplier he could find and couldn't bring them in any cheaper. I even offered to order in bulk and make them my preferred supplier, but no joy.

I suspect web ordering for Azith might be the way to go but get the others locally.

Now I have one other question. I'm getting on OK with CAP. I get the odd symptom but I think I'm taking so many moppers on a daily basis the big stuff doesn't get a chance to hit me. I've had the burning feet bit, and I've had the icy feet bit but last night I got a new one.

My right foot was on fire, my left foot was icy. In a way it was handy as by sticking one foot on the other I could sort of balance things out a bit but what the heck was all that about?

Oh and re the going bright red, nose and hands thing from the last post, the latest batch of Doxy has turned up with a large warning on the front: Stay out of the sun, don't sunbathe, don't use sunbeds. So it's definitely the Doxy causing Rudolph syndrome.

That's a very good price for doxyi [4]. The cheapest on the web I've seen is £0.16 per cap, but that's only if you buy 500.

The azith price is pants as you realised. You can get it for around £1.30 from magicpharma (they are away on holiday until 10th August though).

The Metro price is excellent. That's as cheap as I've found on the web. But then metroi [6] is dirt cheap anyway, so even if you pay 1/2 or 1/3 of what you would, you don't end up saving that much actual money.

There are a few meds which actually work out cheaper at the local pharmacy than via the web (e.g. Questran, Bactrim DS and Ursodiol). Of course you have to factor in things like prescription costs if you have to pay for a private prescription.

CFSi [9]. Started CAPi [1] 03-07. Currently: Roxi 600mg + Doxy 200mg . Tini pulses 1000mg. Sauna QOD. D 8000IU. Niacin 3 x 500mg. Mel 3mg.

All the online Azith seems to be half the price we pay in the chemist but by the time you add import, shipping, handling etc then it bumps it up. I've not come across magicpharma before I've been looking on edrugnet.co.uk.

Ordering on line can save money, especially if you buy the generic form of Azithromycin.

On edrugnet.co.uk 48 generic Azi is £61 = £1.27 per cap

On edrugnet.com 48 generic Azi is $113 (which converts to £57) = £1.19 per cap, although your bank might charge you for purchasing in dollars.

It seems a lot but as you only take 12 caps a month that works out at about £14.40 a month.

As I understand it 'Azi' is still under patent, hence the cost, but patent is running out soon, or has? Similar story with my prescription.

Post pulse new symptoms: Best one is the icy extremeties are almost gone, but relapse/remission is often, only post relapse is usually a slight improvement. I started the same time as you 'ish' so will start a detailed blog soon, when I think I can handle it. Best of Luck... Keep thinking positive!

According to Medco's web site, Pfizer's patent on azithromycin expired in 2005 and they were expecting to see cheaper generic versions available some time in 2006. Pfizer has sued at least two makers of generic azithromycin (Teva and Norvatis' Sandoz unit) alledging some form of infringement of their intellectual property rights. I don't know about the Norvatis settlement, but the Teva settlement has them making a substantial payment to Pfizer. I'll not express an opinion about the merits of the lawsuits, but note that the prospect of litigation can delay entry of competitors into a market and slow down the decline in prices that generally comes with competition.

On all of my recent orders, edrugnet.com has added a $5 surcharge that they attribute to packaging costs. Inhousepharmacy.com charges $115 for 48 tablets of generic Azi but after the first order you become a "preferred customer" and they start to give you a discount which for me turned out to be $5, making the total $110. Inhousepharmacy.com does have mirror sites denominated in other currencies, but I haven't done any "comparison shopping".
