One school of thought that some physicians subscribe to is that you should not take anything that boosts the immunei [1] system - such as Echinacea or Reishi mushrooms, etc... because--- in a so called "auto-immune" disorder it is believed that your own immune system is attacking your body therefore boosting it with herbs, etc... will only make your disease worse.

Another school of thought is that pathogens cause many of the diseasesi [8] that are called "auto-immune".  In this case boosting your immune system while taking antibioticsi [9] could potentially be advantageous.

Lee, There are a lot of

Lee, There are a lot of things you shouldn't do if you have a true autoimmune disorder. Basically, if you believe you have cpni [3], a bacterial infection, as the cause of your disease, then you don't have a true autoimmune disorder. My view is I have an insidious, long-entrenched bacterial infection which manifests itself in a manner doctors refer to as MSi [13]. Therefore, banishing the cpn means there is nothing to manifest as MS any longer. (I never believed, from day one, that my body suddenly took a liking to chewing on its own myelini [14] for no good reason.) Most of the vitaminsi [15] and adjuncts we take are geared to boost the immune system. There may be some other rationale that I can't think of not to take echinacea, but worrying about helping your immune system isn't one of them.
