Common Bacteria Activating Natural Killer T Cells May Cause Autoimmune Liver Disease [1]

The title sums it up pretty well. The text of the article also claims that there is increasing evidence that autoimmune disorders are triggered by microbes.

Ron - Great article !

Ron - Great article !  Interesting who funded the study

"Funding support came from the Lupus Research Institute, the University of Chicago Digestive Diseasesi [15] Research Core Center, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and the Wellcome Trust"

Looks to me like three "autoimmune" disease groups have banded together -

Daisy - Husband on CAPi [2] 5/07.   Roxyi [16], Diflucan round three 4-4, Rifampin, Bactrim DS, Mepron 4-6, Prednisone, Novantrone, Doxyi [4], Azithromycin, Flagyli [6], Minoi [17]

Note that they're still

Submitted by Norman Yarvin on Sat, 2008-05-17 21:17.
Note that they're still talking about autoimmune diseasesi [15] being "triggered" by microbes -- as in, once the trigger is pulled, you have the disease. The concept of microbes providing not just the trigger but the powder, bullet, barrel, and firing pin is still something they are uncomfortable with.

Maybe they have got stuck

Submitted by Michele on Sun, 2008-05-18 02:40.

Maybe they have got stuck with the 'Auto-immunei [20]' label as a short form that people understand, without having realised that they also made the assumption that this syndrome exists?

To my non scientific mind it seems that the immune system is actually doing what it is meant to do and that is clear up infection, the fact that some special humans called doctors and scientists do not see the infection does not mean the the human defence system has turned bad.
