Clammed - to my knowledge 3rd generation cephs such as Rocephini [8]/ceftriaxone do not have activity against gram negative intracellulari [9] pathogens such as chlamydia or mycoplasma, legionella, etc...

 Also from the Rocephin PI see lines 258 on  bottom of page 9- regarding Chlamydia trach in PID .

Also - Dr. Stratton does not reference any testing on CPNi [1] with cephalosporins in his patent.

Based on mechanism of action of cephs it would make sense to me that they would not work in CPn.

Have you ever taken penacillin, amoxicillini [16] or ampicillin and if you havnt... are you penacillin allerrgic?

When you took the keflex and rocephini [8] were you still on the capi [11] bacteriostatics as well or diod you go off them?

No. Am not allergic. I took Penicillin years ago with no problems. Have been taking Doxyi [6] and Roxy (both macrolides) for over a year and a half with no problems, either.

 Yes. Was still on CAPi [11] when I took the Keflex and Rocephini [8]. Have been off all ABXi [18] temporarily for over a month, until I stop suffering from the neuropathy so badly. Just started drinking Bentonite clay to soak up some of the endotoxinsi [19] and it is definitely helping, so far.

P.S. Would definitely heed what Michele and others say about which meds and how much to be taking. Straying from the protocol is what caused my problems

P.P.S. Had the same exp with an ER doc. Think it's because they know that they are isolated by ER work in not being held accountable in treating patients long-term. They're actually nice because of it

Minai - Good article on pneumonia.    Still don't believe that cephalosporins work for Cpni [1] though. 

It is true that cephalosporins will work on some gram negative bacteria but they are not believed to work on the gram negative intracellulari [9] ones like mycoplasma, CPn and legionella for example. 

Here's quote from study you linked "Concomitant treatment with erythromycin or metronidazolei [7] was allowed when infection with Legionella pneumophila, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae, or a cephalosporin-resistant anaerobic organism was suspected."

Usually in a hospital setting where they are giving IV 3rd generation cephs for someone with pneumonia they will also add a quinolone or macrolide to cover the gram neg intracellulars.

Same is true in outpatient setting.  I have seen many doctors give a IM shot of Rocephini [8] in the office and then prescribe a round of macrolides to go home on.

I am thinking your severe reaction to the recent IV cephs (and hope you are feeling better and better everyday!) was a die off of something else besides CPn.
