On the occasion of my son Norman's birthday today, I'd like to announce to you that it is not only Norman who is doing well in our family. It seems clear that I've been cured of inflammatory bowel diseasei [1] once and for all. Since late November, I've had no trace of the bowel disturbances that had persisted in me for at least ten years. With Norman's help and the right doctor, I started on the protocol(slowly at first)in February of 2007, after a year and a half of visits to a gastroenterologist who had diagnosed my rectal bleeding as Crohn's disease (later diagnosed as ulcerative colitis by another gastroenterologist). The gastroenterologists had upped my dosage of Asacol to 8 400 mg pills a day, warning that cutting back on this medication would cause a relapse. The severity of my symptoms seemed to track the timing of my metronidazolei [2] pulses through to November, while also responding to the Asacol. Over the past two months, I've been free of Asacol, having slowly decreased the dosage over the late winter months. The change has been so remarkable, especially given the lack of Asacol, that I'm now confident that there is in fact a real cure. I wish to thank not only Norman, but also all of you at cpnhelp for your warm support and good information. Best, Sue Yarvin diagnosed with ulcerative colitis 11/05, taking minocycline 100 mg twice a day, azithromycin 250 mg MWF, NAC 2400 mg a day, pulses of metronidazole 500 mg usually a month or so apart.

 Sue- that's a wonderful

Submitted by Jim K on Tue, 2008-04-08 20:01.

Sue- that's a wonderful thing to hear! And a big thing to be able to come off of the Asacol, which I'm sure was expected to be a lifetime medication.

Perhaps you might put it together into a "patient story" for us? I'd be glad to post it. We can't know what percentage of IBSi [13] the CAPi [4] will help, but if your story gives someone an avenue to try before they end up with a colostomy you'll have helped a bunch of folks.

CAP for Cpni [17] 11/04. Dx: 25yrs CFSi [21] & FMSi [22]. Protocol: 200mg Doxyi [11], 250mg MWF Azith, Tinii [23] 1000mg/day pulses; Vit D1000 units, Iodoral 50mg, T4 & T3

Submitted by clammed_up on Wed, 2008-04-09 09:31.

Hi, just wanted to say congratulations. For me its only been 3 weeks and Im already off my IBSi [13] meds and having very minimal pain. ( as compared to pain that left me doubled over and crying. Still a long way from cured but your story further confirms to me that bowel problems are such a huge part of cpni [17]. Thanks for the update and again congratulations.
