Has anyone seen the GoodSearch Search Engine which folks can use for their "googles"?  If an admin from the site registers Cpnhelp.org with them, a penny a search is donated to the site!

They get their money from

Submitted by Norman Yarvin on Tue, 2008-03-25 21:09.
They get their money from advertisements, of course. That site says they use Yahoo's search engine; but Google has a similar feature, where people can get paid for feeding them search queries (which are returned with even more ads than usual).

We have looked into this

Submitted by Michèle on Wed, 2008-03-26 04:56.

We have looked into this kind of thing in the past and decided not to go down that route as we wanted to remain as independent as we could.   All we need money for is maintaining the website, so long as we have enough for that we don't need to go elsewhere but out members' voluntary contributions.   Jim says we have enough at the moment...

Michele, I think the point [18]

Submitted by Reenie on Wed, 2008-03-26 11:25.

Michele,

I think the point may be missed here so I'll elaborate.  If you alert folks maybe just thru a blog or post like I did of the name of the site and cpnhelp.org is on the list of selections for accepting donations, there are no advertisements on your site.

I use the site regularly on my pc for my internet searches.  It's on my firefox browser and is partly how I found THIS site.  Wink

In other words, once cpnhelp was registered with goodsearch to receive donations for searches, anyone (family and friends) could be sent an email asking them to make goodsearch their current search engine on their browser's toolbar or select it as their home page.  They would never even have to have visited the cpn site to do this.

The so called ads are on ANY search engine page I've ever used.  And I think goodsearch is really a pretty good search engine.  I've only had to switch over to google on a rare occasion if/when the search findings weren't what I was looking for.

I hope that helps.  Smile

Been on the MPi [19] for 3 1/2 yrs. I'm just looking for now ;)
