Paula has asked me to put a few questions out into the forum. She intends to start on the Roxi this weekend.
Paula has been on 100mg Doxyi [1] twice per day virtually from day 1 a couple of months ago. She increased her dosage of it from 100mg once per day after a suspected ear infection. In the end her ear pain just looked like possible cpni [2] die-off due to NACi [3] and Samento.
1) Should she reduce her Doxy back down to 100mg once per per day when she takes 150 mg of Roxi twice per day?
OR
Stick with the 200mg of Doxy per day and start on 150mg Roxi once per day.
2) We bought the Aventis 300mg Roxi to save money. To save Paula trying to break the Roxi in half and take it twice per day, could she take the 300mg Roxi in one go, then take 200mg Doxy in one go later in the day?
What does everyone think? Is it better to take the daily dosage in one go,or split it to twice per day with both abxi [4]?
Thanks,
Mark.

I suggest that she keeps the doxyi [1] dose 100mg twice a day, and take 150mg roxyi [9] once a day for a couple of days to see how she reacts. Then I would take the roxy twice a day to in the beginning. If she is going to have reactions it will give you enough time to hold back on the second dose. Once that has bedded in you can start playing around with double doses at one go. I suggest you cut a few tabs in half at one time it will make it easier.

Hi Mark here is what I
Hi Mark here is what I think.
Paula is a very sensitivity woman from what I hear.
May folks do just fine with the full dose at one point during the day.
From my experience the 200 mg of Doxyi [1] at one time causes more die off for me, I feel it.
Taken at night may not be so difficult, I am trying it now after 9 months.
The Roxi I still take twice a day. It is easy on the stomach and I guess I find it no problem to take it twice a day so have not tried the full does at one time.
You can take the full dose of both at one time according to the protocol with each of them. However the comment that is often made is "If you can take it" the die off that is.
You can get a pill splitter and cut the 300 mg tablets that would work.
About the Doxy no, do not reduce it to 100mg per day. the protocol is 200mg per day. and she had gotten her dosage there now so not wise to back down at this point.
just my thoughts, sure we will hear some to the contrary
.

Doxy is recommend without food for maximum absorption but even the package insert says you can take it with food if you have stomach distress.
Roxy seems to be super easy on the stomach and can be given with or without food.

Sarah, my comment was primarily for those who have mega unrelenting fatigue as a significant part of their chief complaints. I WISH that I did not belong to that subset of individuals!
Mark, I think that Paula and I have more in common on some level or other with chronic fatigue high on the list.

Roxyi should be taken on
Roxy should be taken on empty stomach or at least 15 minutes before a meal for best absorbtion (=the levels you want to have in your blood). You can read it in the CAPi [11] medication info at the end of the cpni [2]-handbook.
I take 300 Roxy in the morning on empty stomach and breakfast 30 minutes or more after.
Doxyi [1] is better with lots of water and with food a meal to prevent nausea.
Don't lie down after taking Doxy. I take my 200 doxy in the evening after my evening meal. I have to sit up at least one hour after (but with legs on the sofa or coffee-table ).

MacKintosh, according to
MacKintosh, according to FASS (Farmaceutical specialitys in Sweden) for physicians, food affects absorbtion of doxycyclin insignificantly. So why take it without food and risk nausea when you can take it with food.
Lots of other thing does affect Doxy absorbtion and concentration in blood significantly, like iron, magnesium ,calcium , rifampicin and a couple of other meds .
I am sorry I don't have/don't know the english equivalent for FASS, but it is used by all physicians in Sweden when prescribing meds and giving patients information so it really is reliable.
Day 21 of Flagyl! Sounds scary too me! I thought five days every third week would be enough.
Sorry for writing short but I still don't feel very well and have very little energy.

Just for info, Paula took
Just for info, Paula took her first Doxyi [1] of the day yesterday with only a small amount of food (half a banana). She didn't feel nauseous at all, which is good.
Her fatigue and all other CFSi [15] related symptoms were a lot worse yesterday, including irritability. Maybe it's increased porphyriai [16] symptoms - maybe the Doxy is is being absorbed better without taking as much food with it.
Or maybe she has been doing far too much this past week. Especially trying to pass cpni [2] related info onto others with CFS via phone calls and text messages on her mob, letter writing, etc.
Sheesh!
I've told her to be selfish and look after herself, not to think about spreading the info to others until she is well enough. - That's my job. :-)
Looks like the Roxi is off the menu again for the time being.

Relating to the banana - Paula takes the doxyi [1] with lots of water now. She didn't have anything to eat Sunday morning with the doxy and was fine. She had a main meal about 30 minutes after the doxy.
I agree that some of her symtoms could be better doxy absorbtion, but also her increased activity this past week and she agrees.
