Hi All,

Thought others might find the following kind of interesting. It's an article discussing the difference between Apoptosisi [1], Greek for "to drop gently" and what these researchers call "Pyroptosis," Greek for "going down in flames".

First an easy to read news item on this:

How Do Infections And Toxins Launch A Cell's Self-destruct And Alarm System? [2]

Then an actual article:

Apoptosis, Pyroptosis, and Necrosis: Mechanistic Description of Dead and Dying Eukaryotic Cells [3]

Although they are associating this with other infections, I don't think many on this site believe that our Cpni [4] infected cells "drop gently" when they die. "Going down in flames" seems so much more apt a description for what we feel when the anti-Chlamydial agents cause the parasitized cells to die and spill their inflammatory contents into our systems...

Wow Red, Thanks for the link. Not only has this article changed the way that I look at apoptosisi [1], but other articles listed there are facsinating--such as: immunei [9] system behavior during and after infection and the need for brain cells to be stimulated in order to survive. Good stuff! -kk2

Red, Your summary sounds

Red, Your summary sounds timely to me; I'm ending day 16 of flagyli [11] and suddenly feel crummy. A big change from just twenty-four hours ago. I don't even feel good enough to read the articles yet, but will tomorrow. Methinks the cpni [4] doesn't 'go gently into that good night' either. Pyroptosis sounds about right.
