OverAcidic system

My stomach has been a fire pit all day and I'm not sure how to calm it down.    Is over acidic part of CPNi??  Anyone have any good suggestions?  It is becoming painful.  I was talking acidphex and that seemed to help but my doc said that stuff could make my stomach worse.

any ideas?  thanks

I'm not alot of discomfort..  got to find a way to calm it down.   thank you.

the only antibotic I'm taking is doxy  200mg a day but i'm getting ready to start DSMA to try to kick out some of this mercury and lead that is in my system.

Qkam,  I had writhing abdomenal pain when first taking Doxyi.  The answer for me was to take it with a full meal.  Such as eggs, bacon, oatmeal.  And a full supper with fat and protein.  Also to note I take it in the middle of the meal so there is food under and over it.  For me it is was most inportant.   Some folks, many folks, never have a single complaint about Doxy in their stomach.  Sounds to me like you could try my solution, not just once but for a good number of weeks.

I think it has to do with stress at work and maybe too much stomach acid and not enough enzymes and the doxyi is swimming around in all that mess.  I think i will try to take it in the middle of the meal and I usually drink plenty of water-  but I really think i need to stay away from anything with spice of any kind  -   I need to find some cooling foods to keep my stomach calm and cool  during all this stress.    anyone know any cooling foods?  thanks

The trouble with fire in the

The trouble with fire in the stomach is that it can be caused by either too much acid, not enough or even a suppression of mucous production in your stomach and it is difficult to tell which it is.

I have not had many problems with doxyi, but NACi and Flagyl have been unbearable at times.   Here are the things I have tried:

cutting out wheat products: this helps me but possibly because I am gluten intolerant

Betaine HCL: a herbal hydrochloric acid similar to stomach acid that you take with meals; it works for some but did nothing for me.

Cimetidine:  is a histamine H2-receptor antagonist that inhibits the production of acid in the stomach (Wikepedia) but you will have to get your doctor to prescribe that.  That helps.

I have found that I don't get this heartburn as frequently or as severely as I used to, but it took quite a while to learn how to cope with it and for it to subside to a manageable level.   Anti acid tablets and chewimg gum help me cope on a day to day basis when the discomfort is high.

i think it is too much acid

i think it is too much acid as yesterday i started belching up acid (i think it was acid)  and my mouth is breaking up in the roof and on my lips..  I feel like a volcano is exploding.. .   I can see the cartoon now!  I'm gonna try pepto bismo..

has anyone heard of the stomach virius that is ofen associated with CFSi?  I read about it in a newsletter but cant remember the name right now.

Here is a link to a report

Here is a link to a report you might recognise.

Or maybe you are you thinking of H. pylorii although it is not a virus (info from wikipedia)?

Helicobacter pylori  is a gram-negative, microaerophilic, and acidophilic bacterium that infects various areas of the stomach and duodenum. Many cases of peptic ulcers, gastritis, duodenitis, and perhaps some cancers are caused by H. pylori infectionsi. However, many who are infected do not show any symptoms of disease. Helicobacter spp. are the only known microorganisms that can thrive in the highly acidic environment of the stomach. H. pylori's helical shape (from which the genus name is derived) is thought to have evolved to penetrate and favor its motility in the mucus gel layer.

The treatment for H pylorii uses metronidazolei (Flagyl) as one of its drugs.

Classes of Drugs used to Treat H. pylori

Drug Class

Drugs in the Class

Antibioticsi Amoxicillini, Clarithromycin, Metronidazole, Tetracycline
H2-Blockers Cimetidine (Tagamet), Famotidine (Pepcid), Nizatidine (Axid), Ranitidine (Zantac)
Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) Esomeprazole (Nexium), Lansoprazole (Prevacid), Omeprazole (Prilosec), Pantoprazole (Protonix), Rabeprazole (Aciphex)
Cytoprotective Agents Bismuth subsalicylate, bismuth subcitrate potassium, sucralfate
Combination Products Helidac, Prevpac, Pylera

Another remedy I read about regarding oesophagal inflamation is Slippery Elm, which apparently stimulates mucus production.

Q, I know how unpleasant

Q, I know how unpleasant this is.   I don't like it either, but you have to learn to manage it.   First of all these symptoms when you do try to manage them take a few days to subside, so don't give up yet.   Secondly in my experience the oesophagal pain is probably associated with Cpni infection for in my case the worst of it comes when I am taking Flagyl.   Thirdly, again in my experience cutting out certain foods helps, for me grain seems to aggravate it, which is a bit of a bind since we are supposed to a high carb diet to counter porphyriai.

thanks for the support,

thanks for the support,

the pain is too intense, i think my doctor may have to switch the antibotic..  and it spreads up my chest and out into my arms- all the burning.

i read that i am not supposed to take doxyi within 2 hours of any mulitvitaim or caliculm..and I have been taking with my vitaminsi with my meals.

I also read that stomach pain with low fever are severe side effects and not good ones.

last nite i tried zantac.. it helped untill i took the doxy - it also seems to bring low grade fever-  i thought i was gonna die.   i'll hopefully talk to my doc on Monday, he charges $60 a phone call if it goes over 5 mins  -bummer.  not looking forward to that.

sometimes i have quiona instead of wheat..   i dont think it is considered "wheat"

No Quinoa is not wheat.

No Quinoa is not wheat.   Wheat is the worst for me, but any other grain commonly used for bread will also aggravate any pre-existing heartburn.   Rice is OK for me but rice cakes can be a problem.

I hope you get this sorted out soon.

Taking Doxyi with multivitamins or calicum, maybe that was my problem -  I recently read this  "Do not take iron supplementsi, multivitamins, calcium supplementsi, antacids, or laxatives within 2 hours before of or after taking doxycycline. "    ..    does anyone know why ?   I wonder if this was causing my reaction?

Yes, it says that on the

Yes, it says that on the leaflet you get inside the pack.  Doxycycline is a very acidic antibiotic and can damage the lining of your oesophagus if you don't take plenty of water.  A small amount of milk will line oesophagus and stomach, and isn't a no-no as with older tetracyclines, but antacids will obviously make it less effective, along with calcium, laxatives which can contain calcium salts and multivitamins ditto.  I'm not sure about iron supplementsi................Sarah

i tried some digestive enzymes I happed to have on hand and some Manna from Heaven bread.   Also slept and sweat most of the afternoon.. the burning stomach seems to be lessening.   I'm afraid to take the doxyi again.  I'll have to call my doc on Monday and see what he suggests..  This hasn't been a fun ride.     thanks everyone for your suggestions and support.

Qkam, Healing from CPNi,

Qkam, Healing from CPNi, particularly if you have a large bacterial loadi, is not fun.  I have to eat protein, fat, and carbohydrate with each doxyi dose I take.  It is very effective and getting weller, particulary early on can be not much fun.  Yet for me it was the only choice and I am wayyyy much better now.
