OMG!!!! I DID IT!!!!

Kim Rides a Bike! It's Been Over Ten Years!

I rode a bike for the first time in 10 years today.  I feel like an eagle in flight!  Ken and I rented a tandem bike and after much testing, rode on our local bike trail.  Ken said I was euphoric!  My feet didn't slide off the pedals which was an issue when I was in physical therapy a year or so before starting abxi.  (my feet had to be strapped to the stationary bike when I did PT back them)

I was very tense and Ken gave me every opportunity to back-out, but I was determined to at least try.  The bike shop was really helpful.  The owner, John, showed us the MSi bracelet he was wearing - his daughter has MS.  John helped us to get acclimated to the bike and had Ken ride it around the parking lot a good bit first.

We rode about 3/4 of a mile before we turned around and went back.  My knees felt clicky but otherwise I know I could have gone further.  After we got back we went to lunch and  I told Ken that I was emotionally spent.  What an amazing day!!!!  Cool Kim

Oh, hurray!

I am so glad for you. Brilliant idea to go tandem, and how fine that the bike shop owner understood what you were trying to do.

Gosh Kim, you've done it!

Gosh Kim, you've done it!  Perhaps I should try a tandem with David, but I feel so much that I must be in control.  Were you at the front or the back?

I'm not surprised you were emotionally drained...................Sarah

Sara, We talked with a couple just heading out on the path. they said that riding in the back is for the power and the front navigates and communicates whats happening or coming up ahead. While I don't have alot of power,Ken and I rode at a medium steady pace. sometimes I'd have to adjust as my legs got tired. coast a bit. but oh, what a ride! can't wait to try a little further next time!!!

Janja, before jumping into buying a tandem bike be sure you can keep your feet on the peddles. you do get your heart rate pumping so be prepared to warm up a bit. but its great to have a partner helping too! have fun!

Right, so David at the rear

Right, so David at the rear and me out front!  Actually, that is rather funny because my sister and her partner have a tandem and said partner always rides at the front.  Now I know why!!

Actually, I think I would still prefer to get a low rise women's bike and do it myself.  I'm dreadful that way: I don't like to be picked up or carried or anything.

Janja, I used to constantly look down at my feet just before I couldn't even walk, just to make sure they were still on the pedals.  They had a tendency to move to the edge then drop off, but I couldn't feel them....................Sarah
