Nausea

I responded to Tina's post with this but was afraid it might be missed by many and decided to repost. Hope this helps and I apologize for the repost.

I am pretty sure that nausea is caused by increased serotonin levels. This is the same problem patients have with certain cancer chemo therapy regimens face. The problem is that your immune system normally sequesters tryptophan when fighting infection as part of cell mediated immunity. Tryptophan is the least abundant essential amino acid so it makes sense to limit its availability to inhibit viral and bacterial growth. Tryptophan is a precursor to serotonin so you are not able to make enough when you have a chronic infection like Chlamydia Pneumonia (This is why SSRI's are one of the most prescribed drugs in the world.). When you kill a lot a Chlamydia (and reduce the number of immune stimulating proteins it regularly produces) your immune system stops signaling cells to sequester tryptophan and for a period of time you overproduce serotonin in an effort to stabilize your neurotransmitter levels.

Anyway your options are to deal with it or take a 5-HTP inhibitor which limits the production of serotonin such as 8 mg of ondansetron. One other strategy to consider is to take your Flagyli a few hours before bed time and sleep through the nausea.

Paul great topic, thanks.  What would you suggest for Doxycycline induced nausea and vomitting?

I just want to mention re 8

I just want to mention re 8 mg of ondansetron:  You should be able to get these as dissolving tablets which can be crucial if you're already nauseous to the point where trying to swallow just one pill can induce vomiting.  They are very small pills - you just place them under your tongue.  I believe that also quickens their effectiveness.

Nitroglycerine patches have

Nitroglycerine patches have helped counter the hydrogen sulphide that causes me nausea (and dry eyes). Tina, I am glad to read Paul offering us answers. I had terrible nausea and vomitting the first months I was on metronidazolei and heavy metal chelators.
