lyrica

Anybody hear about this drug? Its a new treatment for fibro. I dont know if treats the cause or the symptoms.  Some people with fibromyalgiai are tealing me this is working for them but I cant find any information on the internet about what it acually is and what is does besides work like a antidepressant.

Lyrica gave me immense relief the very first time I took it.  It was like floating on a cloud.  There was an absence of pain like I hadn't experienced in years.  Then the effect diminished very quickly with subsequent doses and the couple of times I've tried it again after months inbetween have never brought that same relief again.

I heard some negative feedback about suspected risks associated with it that made me think I shouldn't use it.  My understanding is that it influences how your body perceives pain.  Wish I could tell you more.  Hope that's useful.

I took Neurontin because I thought it didn't cause weight gain like Lyrica does.  Boy was I wrong!  I gained 10 pounds so quit.  It did help with the pain but you know how women are, sacrifice to keep from gaining more weight.  I'm back to using my percocet again.  Oh well, the sacrifices we make for our looks!  (Neurontin and Lyrica are the same only a little different.  A friend of mine was on Lyrica for 2 months and gained 20 pounds!  Another friend of mine takes Neurontin (the highest dose you can take) and doesn't have any problem with weight gain.)

I've been taking Lyrica (Pregabalin)for 2 years.  It has been wonderful for the pain of my Fibromyalgiai.  It is chemically similar to Neurontin (Gabapentin) but without as many of the negative side effects of Neurontin.  It is classified as an analgesic and neurological agent.

It was originally approved for nerve pain like Diabetic neuropathy and shingles. And, it is very effective for these conditions.  It is also used to treat seizures and Epilepsy.  Not everyone gains weight on it, however  I've gained about 10 pounds.

The other side effects that I've experienced are, dizziness, sleepiness, dry mouth and eyes.  It is a trade off.  I take 300 mg. at bedtime so it actually helps me sleep much more soundly.  This is great because I struggle using C-PAP (sleep machine) for my sleep Apnea.  If I'm sleeping, the dizziness isn't a problem.  I use lots of liquid tears and dry mouth mouthwash, etc.

Its best to start with a lower dose and gradually work up as you do adjust to the side effects and they tend to get better with time.  In the clinical trials, the best relief for Fibro patients was achieved at 450 mg. to 600 mg.  My pain was under control, but when I started on CAPi, it returned and I had to add 150 mg. each morning (total 450mg.).  At times, I'm able to go back to 300 mg.

Its never helped me with the fatigue or brain fog.   One of my doctors said that I need a higher dose to see improvement in these areas.  But, I feel like I couldn't handle the side effects at 600 mg.  I'm not sure I'd ever wake up.  So, hope this info. helps.

Hamish, my husband has been prescribed Lyrica for the neuropathic pain of shingles.   He has found it to be very good to lower his anxiety levels as well.   It seems to be working very well for him and the side effects are only marginal and certainly less significant than the pain and anxiety.

I've been taking Lyrica for nearly two years for relief of pain. It is wonderful. I didn't gain any weight. I already had dry eyes.

minocycline, azithromycine, metronidazolei 2007-2009, chelation for lead poisoning, muscle pain, insomnia, interstitial cystitisi (almost well), sinus, dry eyes, stiff neck, veins, hypothyroid, TMJ, hip joints (no longer hurt)

Marcia, did you gain weight with the lyrica?  Weight gain is a side effect with it also.  Maybe I should try it.

Yes, I did gain about 10 pounds but I'm not sure I can blame all of it on Lyrica.  I've been very sick from CAPi so I can't exercise.  Because I feel bad so much of the time, I end up eating whatever I can grab without having to cook.  Either way, its worth it to me if I can get some pain relief.  Good Luck.
