Glucose is Dextrose is cheaper as a powder............

And you can buy it as a powder from I Herb and then mix as much as you need with water.  Add lemon or other flavoring if you really don't like the innocuous flavour of the glucose. It is much less expensive than all those glucose containing sports drinks.
Good if you are embarrassed by going to the local home brew shop to buy some there........Sarah

Thank you Marie!Laughing  I only found it when someone from here wondered about trying to get Lucozade sent from the UK to the US.  So I looked up where you could get the powder, which here is much cheaper in the UK from a home brew place than from a pharmacy...........Sarah

Thank you, Sarah. I did

Thank you, Sarah. I did order the NOW dextrose powder. Glucose does seem to be the only thing helping. Benadryl, Allegra, Famatodine, Prednisone, Benfotiamine, Bentonite, Actos, Welchol, Neurontin, and charcoal, haven't. Defintely think that I made the SP worse with all of the Gatorade (sucrose and fructose) that I was consuming. I do wish that Lucozade contained only glucose without the aspartame and other weird things. Thankfully, I do have a 2 liter of Lemon-Lime Seltzer water that I can drink whie waiting on the Dextrose to arrive. Seltzer water is also mentioned in the patent. And, I have bags and bags of Smarties that may help out, too. --Minai RRMSi, diagnosed 2/04. NACi 4/06. Started Wheldon/Stratton regime 8/30/06. Doxycycline, 8/06, Azith, 10/06. Smarties washed down with seltzer water should do the trick, but charcoal and constipation don't mix.  To this end keep up the apricots as well!............Sarah

Just took the smarties with

Just took the smarties with seltzer. First thing I've eaten all day. Am scared of apricots because of fructose and they are dried fruit that may need to be washed. The SP is making me even more constipated. Even with an enema I can't go unless I have just gotten up and haven't eaten. May eat apricots after dinner when I've consumed enough carbs? --Minai

I eat fresh pineapple to keep regular, if that's helpful.

Thanks, Corinna. I love fresh pineappple and it probably would help. Yet, in my situation I couldn't prepare it due to spasticity. Even looked into taking Bromelain, made from pineapples, supposed to help with SP. Yet am so sensitive to such things, might make it worse. --Minai

Oh Minai, that is

Oh Minai, that is unfortunate.  I also find moderately high doses of Vitamin C, milk of magnesia, psyllium and natural senokot helpful and they now make a senokot wheatbran to add to meals which is helpful for folks that can eat wheat products.  But, I'm not that familiar with your spasticity situation so none of this may benefit you. Frown

Good luck with this, I hate it when I get all bunged up.

Best wishes,
Corinna

Hi Barbara, Am keeping it in mind. But it does seem a little extreme in that it was used as a bird killer. Would probably have reaction from it, but not necessarily in a good way. --Minai

  Good grief, I started

Good grief, I started this about where you could buy glucose powder from!  Fruit though, is full of fibre, even though it by definition also contains fructose, but the important thing to get rid of porhyrins or endotoxinsi is to get rid of them regularly, hence the fibre in whatever form, and dried apricots are delicious:

People have asked me why the glucose. I can't answer that, why does glucose work for porphyriai? What does it do? My husband is an Emergency Medical Responder and they know glucose to be used for hypoglycemia or diabetics, but why do we take it?
