What is Chitosan HDTM / LipoSan UltraTM

 Info available from:

http://www.wholehealth.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_id=82

Chitosan HDTM / LipoSan UltraTM is an ultra-dense form of Chitosan; the "HD" meaning "high density". According to research provided by the manufacturer, Chitosan HDTM has the ability to absorb 3 to 5 times the lipids of regular Chitosan. And, it is soluble in 3 to 5 minutes.

Chitosan HDTM is soluble in stomach acid and its amino groups become positively charged via proteination by the acid. In the presence of dietary fatty acids, which carry negative charges, ionic bonds form that bind the fatty acids to the Chitosan's amino groups.

As the soluble Chitosan/fatty acid complex moves into the small intestine, it also binds with bile acids and cholesteroli that are present. The complex absorbs up to 400 times its weight in water and begins to floc due to the higher, less acidic pH in the small intestine. This flocculation further aids the binding process by trapping or encapsulating all of the bound lipids, including cholesterol.

As the pH continues to increase, Chitosan HDTM floc forms an insoluble gel consisting of Chitosan, bile acids, bound lipids and cholesterol--none of which enter the blood stream. Not only is cholesterol uptake decreased, but it is believed that the continuous partial removal of bile acids from circulation by Chitosan HDTM triggers the body to produce replacement bile acid via the oxidation of already absorbed cholesterol. This produces an additional reduction in low density lipoprotein (LDL) levels.

For these reasons, Chitosan has earned the reputation as the premier lipid binder. Now Vanson researchers have been able to manufacturer Chitosan HDTM which has the ability to bind with almost three times as much lipid volume as compared to its predecessor. This new product is called Chitosan HDTM / LipoSan UltraTM.

How Can I Distinguish between High Density Chitosan and older Chitosan?

High Density Chitosan is more expensive. If a company is using it, they will brag about it. If they just say "Chitosan," it's not high density Chitosan HDTM.

Important nutritional note for dieters

People need some fat in their diets, as we all need to ingest essential fatty acids, and the fat-soluble vitaminsi A, D, E and K. For these reasons, we recommend against using these products before every meal, every day. Regular use of any product on this page should ideally be combined with a high-quality fatty acid product, and a multivitamin containing adequate amounts of fat soluble vitamins. Take these supplementsi at a different time from when you take Fat Absorber or Chitosan HDTM.

NOTE: WE CANNOT SHIP CHITOSAN PRODUCTS TO ITALY.

Attention dieters

Weight loss occurs when a person burns more calories than s/he ingests. Therefore, eating less, eating right, and exercising are essential to your weight loss program. Easier said than done! Additionally, it is important to focus on fat loss as opposed to just weight loss, since nobody has a reason to want to lose lean muscle tissue. The products we offer can be a valuable aid in your effort, if used responsibly. Our customers who heed this advice invariable succeed and often report to us that our products were helpful to them. Remember, it is impossible to "lose weight overnight" in a healthy manner. Permanent, healthy weight loss takes time and dedication. Good luck, we know you can do it!

Side Effects

Anyone allergic to shellfish may be allergic to Chitosan HDTM, as it is derived from shellfish. Remember that Vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble vitamins. So, you need some fat in order to get these vitamins. With this in mind, we recommend that you do not use Chitosan HD more than once a day, preferably prior to your heaviest meal, and consider taking a multivitamin. See the nutritional note.

Thanks for this info. This looks like a useful substitute for cholestyramine or charcoal. Anyone used all of the above at different times and has any sense of efficacy in regards to porphyrins?

I just found the

I just found the formulation at the Wholehealth.co website that you shared with me and the info came the promo on that site that they included about the Chitosan HD.   Previously, I did not find the original form of Chitosan that I got from NOW brand last year to be effective for me.  This new development may change that perhaps and you can get it faster and without import and is a non Rx.   Charcoal was not a good fit for me either.  I became adverse and could not take enough and it interfered with my Rx medications last year, not enough hours in the day etc, etc, etc.

I did not order it this new form of Chitosan HD this month, got more Pyruvate (once a day in mid morning or early PM for energy pick up works great and the Sam-e I am back to one tablet first thing in AM after loading up to 3 tablets in devided dose then backing down to 2 then to 1 is plenty with the added B Complex and Sublingual B12,B6,&Folatei combo.  I found this information quite by accident when going to the site to place an order.  There is a 20% off sale this week.

Jim, Louise   I just

Jim, Louise

I just wanted to give you both an update on my second day of taking Chitosan HD.  Frankly, I'm not entirely sure I'm taking it the right way.  The instructions are to take 4 capsules a day.  I take all 4 before having lunch, at least, that's what I've done so far.

It's unclear to me whether I should take it before eating or while eating.  It's also unclear to me if the 4 capsule dosage is the dosage I should be taking in order to bind up bile acids / endotoxini / prophyrins that result after eating.  My goal is and has been to do that very thing so that I'm not having as much difficulty after lunch due to endotoxin and/or porphyriai.  So far, it doesn't seem to have made much difference so I again have to wonder if I'm doing the right thing in my dosage.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

John- I don't know if the Chitosan will work, but for sure every time bile acids are dumped (pretty much whenever there is fat dumped into the duodenum by the stomach) you have porphyrins dumped. So in order to get enough portion of the porphyrins you'll have to do more than once a day to know. I'd be inclined to try it at least twice a day either with meals or in between with some fat-based snack. Dosage? It's like prunes: is 1 too few, six too many? It depends on how much binding it has. 12 caps of charcoal, one scoop (about 1 heaping tsp) of cholestyramine, how many of Chitosan (assuming it even does the trick).

Hi Louise,I take regular

Hi Louise,

I take regular Chitosan & have been for quite some time.    I take 1.5 -2.5 gms at 3 intervals during the day, 1/2 before food, away from B & oil vitaminsi.  If I am having a particularly bad pulse I use the higher dose during the critical aftermath.

so, between this, 6-12 gms of C, Yaeyama with my green juice in the AM & glucose as needed, I can stay on top of the die off much better now.  I see much less of the Troll Queen which is a huge benefit, lol

Hope this helps.  Incidentally, I too have had to switch brands as the last time I ordered from American Nutrition, they didn't have the now product.  I just use the plain variety.

My husband uses it if he is going to eat a greasy hamburger & such as well.

peace

r
