flagyl and crying

after pretty OK first flagyli (a bit wakeful, a bit high even).... the tears came a couple of days later.

also combined with swollen neck glands - a common feature of my ME.  perhaps a revisit to a CPNi site, i don't know.

but the crying thing.  is that a sign of CPN?  if you didn't have CPN and took flagyl would you get more emotional and cry?  it seems a bit odd.  i know ME/CFSi can affect you that way anyway - but i really have been very tearful this morning and yesterday.

I've experienced the tears

I've experienced the tears with my daughter, who has MS, and heard other people say that they are more emotionally unstable at Flagyl time.   My layman's opinion is that it is related to Cpni in the CNSi.   But it could be porphyriai also, which of course is Cpn die off related.

From my doctor-husband's

From my doctor-husband's mouth its the flagyli: you can get tears even if you are taking it by itself for other reasons than CPni.  Some people, of course, just get depressed, some people feel fine but I could cry within half an hour of taking the first pill.........Sarah

 Susan- doesn't bring me to

Susan- doesn't bring me to tears, but after a certain point depression hits. I don't feel this with Tinii, for some reason. I think Sarah was the first to identify the tearfulness reaction as a flagyli side effect, and since then others have confirmed the effect. Our Sarah, leader in all things flagylating!

But latterly

But latterly I tinillated but could still end up crying!  David, on the other hand would show severe depression on flagyli, so much so that I would have to insist he stopped if he was doing it for too long.........Sarah

I have to agree with Sarah's

I have to agree with Sarah's last comment. My initial reaction to flagyli was as a powerful mood booster (speculated to be an MAOI). Later on in the pulse I would get a slight downswing in mood.

Conversely my initial experiences with tinii were that it was much more mood altering - made me very melancholic, blue and just "out of sorts".

My recent experiences (all with tini) are that this no longer happens. Haven't gotten any mood effects in a while.

I think the bottom line is that reactions will vary even within the same person according to what else you are doing, your current load etc. Its difficult to say whether its a drug effect or a Cpni-mediated effect.

Blackfoot, I only had the

Blackfoot, I only had the teary thing during the 2nd pulse when I had just about everything else as well. I could tell it was from the flagyli and Sarah had warned me to expect it -- which helped my husband too. For instance, we were sitting at dinner one June evening and I looked out the window and said "uh-oh, here it comes" and then wailed "I want to go for a walk!" while I put my head down on my arms and cried. This too will pass.

oh yes, flagyli can drive me

oh yes, flagyli can drive me to tears....; so can the Azith, but then I have had a predisposition to depression, so it makes sense.

but usually the Troll Queen surfaces first!  I spoke of her again on Mark Hall's post on porphyriai....
