Epidemic Influenza and Vitamin D

With all the headline news lately on influenza, I thought I'd post the following paper.

First, here's an easy to read summary article:

Here's a link to the summary actual review article:

A more recent (and full) article on Vitamin D and influenza can be found here:

The body has a very good immunei system for controlling most viruses but a little harder time with bacteria once it settles in.  Maybe Cpni played a role in the 1918 pandemic.  Those of us on CAPi might be protected now if it happens again, maybe we will be the last ones standing.  See link:

The majority of deaths during the influenza pandemic of 1918-1919 were not caused by the influenza virus acting alone, report researchers from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseasesi (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health. Instead, most victims succumbed to bacterial pneumonia following influenza virus infection. The pneumonia was caused when bacteria that normally inhabit the nose and throat invaded the lungs along a pathway created when the virus destroyed the cells that line the bronchial tubes and lungs.

Hi Moxy,

Thanks for the link.   Also read up on what has been called a 'Cytokinei Storm', basically an overly aggressive immunei response to infectious or non-infectious assault.

You can find good links to articles on this subject towards the bottom of the CpnHelp Cytokinesi page here:

As the articles at top of this thread point out, studies suggest that in addition to playing an important role in microbial defense (via upregulated defensins and cathelicidins, etc), Vitamin Di also may help prevent an overly aggressive immune response...
