Doryx ER - Anyone else taken the Brand Name??

My last script refill I thought I would try the name brand Doxyi Doryx ER. Has anyone else used it? Initially it was easier on the stomach (but not the pocketbook Money mouth!)

I have been taking it since the last week of December. This week I am having severe gastro-intestinal issues. I'll be honest, I haven't been diligent with my supplementsi, (some days I just can't gag them all down) so this may be my payback. I' ve upped my probiotics, Vit C... been taking Tagament, drinking Aloe Vera juice. Anything I can think of to try to calm that area down.

I didn't take my doxy yesterday, but did take the azith. I'm having pain in my upper left quadrant (back and front) and my colon area, as well as distension, gas, etc. -- the usual IBSi symptoms, but with PAIN.

I guess there really isn't a way to determine if I am having complications with the ABXi or it is just now hitting my gut area?? I'm thinking of backing down to ABXi every other day for a week while I "nurture" my digestive system.. would this be a bad idea? It really is getting painful. I believe this has been discussed before (?) but I'm not finding specific info in my searches on this site.

Oh... this is so fun! Finally after 2 months of my knee being attacked it's not longer screaming out at me.. hmm maybe the henchmen have run to my gut Yell

thanks much...

the original doxycycline was Vibramycin by Pfizer, but there are now other vibramycins and many other names.  Anything generic prescribed in the USA is approved by the FDA so is fine............Sarah

Jeanne, I am so sorry to hear about your latest challenge.  Doryx ER  most ER mean extended release. So I wonder if it gets lower in the bowel before absorption or just sustained in the blood stream longer.  I would guess you have ready everything that you can find on it. I am wondering if it is getting at some bowel bacteria in a very "effective way".  There are those bowel pathogens that get out of wack but I don't know the symptoms to make any comment.   I wonder if the non ER would be any different?  Something is cooking up all that gas!  Charcoal is good for gas, took it for Gluten Sentsitivity from time to time after indiscretions.

How much more of the Doryx do you have to go to finish it off?  Any plain old Doxyi left at this point?

One more thought could it be a g.i. flue bug?

Hard to know what to do.  So glad that your knee seems to be on the mend.

Doryx is the Brand Name (non-generic) as told to me by the pharmacist who filled my script.  I actually tried to verbally have the pharmacist change my  refill back to Doxyi due to the cost but had to go with the Doryx as that is how the script was written.

Hey sunshine,

Sorry to hear about the gastro issues.  These things are not new to me & I thought it was the abxi getting to bacteria in my gut.  I also increased the acidophillus & have been using more EmergenC here.  Now the C can have some colon responses & then I back it off.

I also think it is time to do another Candida cleanse, it has been a year as I have been getting that bloaty feeling with a distended abdomen in the evening.  The good news is it is just a bunch of air, when it is die off it is a completely different "odor".

I am doing my pulse 6 & it has slammed me emotionally, YOI.  The Troll Queen has also made an appearance.  I am ramping these things up slowly as well due to the flagyli curse.  The good news, we are slaying more CPni critters!

Louise, hmm.. I really don't think it's the flu... if anything it probably IS the ABXi getting to the gut CPNi. I knew the ER stood for "extended release" but never thought about it affecting that area differently because of being "ER". interesting......

I know others on the site have suffered as well with gut issues --  I'm just concerned because I haven't been diligent with my supplementsi and thought perhaps I should back off for few days and nuture my colon/stomach, etc.

I have some Replenss sachets which I am going to take.  If I had been compliant with the supp's there's no doubt I would attribute this to the CPN in the GUT, but not having been compliant I am concerned I have seriously destroyed/imbalanced the flora in that area.  Also, I have been taking chorella instead of Charcoal

I have 2 months of Doryx  left, but I do have another script I can fill for Doxyi if this persists :)

Hail Troll Queen.. yes the gastro issues are fun.  You know I have to admit this, but every time I burp a Chorella burp, or pass a Naci.. "f**t" I think of you --- really, it's funny and I don't mean that as an insult... I mean it as an endearment toward you (hope I'm not embarrasing you on the WWW!!.  It helps  me laugh and endure!

Candida.. I've been using my Caproyl, Bentonite and psyllium... with Perque C as a chaser.

Sorry you are being slammed.... I keep thinking I should be about where you are with the pulses.. but no way, not yet.  Need to be more functional -- it's been almost a year..

Anyway.... sounds like your hubby and MOL ran for the mountains so they wouldn't have to endure, LOL.  Enjoy your vacation and solitude!!

Florstor..  I hear that is good for candidia.. to kill it off I mean.  I think it is a good yeast  and one that wont be killed off by the antibotics.  that is what the doc says.

honestly I dont know i have it in me to go risk going through that pain again at this point.. it was almost impossible to concentrate at work.   I think the dorxy will do the same to my intestines as it did to my stomach..

I had stomach issues before i started these anitbotics.

As I said above, the original brand name for doxycycline was Vibramycin, produced by Pfizer.  When the paten ran out, many moons ago, many other people started to produce the stuff, called by various names, including more vibramycin and doryx among others.  If they are obtainable by prescription in the US they are made correctly.

As a money making wheeze, a certain company started producing Doryx ER, I don't know who.  Because Doryx ER is a new brand name it is more expensive, but I have no idea if it is a beneficial thing.  I never found any trouble with doxy if taken with some food or a small amount of milk and making sure I remained upright for half an hour............Sarah
