Combination of Azi and Bactrim?

Hi gangmembers !

I went to my doc today and he said he would prescribe me mepron in because of a suspected protozoan coinfection.

So what I ve heard is that mepron is combined with Azithromycin. Sofar so good. But You cant take Doxy with it.

So I need something to replace the doxy for a while . I have read often about the Roxyi/bactrim Combo. But I need to take azi with the mepron for good results. Is Bactrim and Azi ok ? Does anyone have a suggestion or can tell me what is a good replacement for doxy?

Thank you all

I've tried this combination for a few days and it seems to be working. However, Bactrim doesn't have excellent reviews in the literature. I haven't saved a link to an article about a test with results that are not very promissing.

It seems Bactrim doesn't get inside cells as well as azithromycin or minocycline. I'm still trying it since it might be slightly bactericidal.

Relying only on bacteriostatic agents is kind of worthless, since bacteria easily develop resistance over time to such agents. With bactericidal antibioticsi it's more difficult since they die before having the chance to pass on the information to the next generation.

It would be ideal to take only bactericidal agents, but there are very few of them and only rifamipicin and bactrim seem to work on chlamydia.

I consider combining Azi with rifampicin or doxi with rifampicin. The second is far less risky for the liver as doxi is metabolized through the kidneys.

Cesare,

I've used Bactrim DS, Zithromax and minocycline together on the MPi although the doses were sub clinical.  But for your question, I think they are fine to take together.

Bactrim< works differently than the zith, mino or doxyi:

Microbiology:   Sulfamethoxazole inhibits bacterial synthesis of dihydrofolic acid by competing with para  -aminobenzoic acid (PABA). Trimethoprim blocks the production of tetrahydrofolic acid from dihydrofolic acid by binding to and reversibly inhibiting the required enzyme, dihydrofolate reductase. Thus, Bactrim blocks two consecutive steps in the biosynthesis of nucleic acids< and proteins essential to many bacteria.

Thanks tudor and Reenie!

I cant take doxyi together with mepron and I don`t want to dive in another adventure with rifampin at the moment when I am going to try mepron, but thanks a lot. That is why I am looking for an alternative for doxy for a while.

Bactrim is fine as a second antibiotic to the azith. The aim is to block resistance by hitting different bacterial synthesis mechanisms. I found the combo of Bactrim and roxyi a useful one for a number of months and got some noticeable improvements, so I'm all for it.

Hi Jim ! Thank you - you are allways a great help for me and the others! May I ask which dose of bactrim is recomended (or better the range from to)? Because If I take mepron I have to take the azith. every day in doses from 250 to 500.

Thank you very much!

Cesare,

Here is some dosing info for Bactrim. You can look HERE< for more info.
