Big Win

Hi, everyone.  Since there's nothing much going on here (though there's lots of work going on behind the scenes to update our site), I thought I'd tell you a little story.

After a lifetime of fighting what I thought was chronic fatigue, a bout of optic neuritis got me an MSi diagnosis in 2005.  As most of you know, I did the protocol for six or seven years.  Within months, I knew it was helping, when NOTHING had helped up til then.

Well, relationships had suffered, due to my health and lack of emotional stamina.  Projects had fallen by the wayside and I barely dragged myself through a workday, until Dr. Wheldon's version of the protocol saved me from the evil myelini-destroying bacteria.  Smile

And, here I am... fifteen years after diagnosis.  In a forever relationship with a wonderful man, having just bought four acres of land, arranging demolition of the existing home and tackling the biggest building project I've ever undertaken, first a barn/residence, then a 3000 square foot home.

So, when people ask if you can get your life back on this treatment, tell them yes.  I'm living proof and life looks far better than it has in decades.

enjoy the process Mac

my husband and i have built 3 houses and enjoyed each one.  the one we are currently in is still not finished due to cpni.  i can no longer do anything to help and most of davids time is spent caring for me or taking me to therepy.  i would love to be able to do another one day and keep hoping i can walk again and get the abillity to do things for myself again.

enjoy it and keep us updated on the progress.

That I shall, Sharon!  It's

That I shall, Sharon!  It's not my first building project, but it is my first from the ground up.

Usually, I restore, rehab, or gut-rehab existing buildings, but this one will be from concept to fruition, TWICE, on the same parcel of land.  Barn/residence first, because it's less complex.  Then, the 'real' house, and the barn will become guest quarters and my glass studio. (Sarah knows this has been a dream for a few years now.)

I'm a frustrated architect who definitely chose the wrong major in college.  This will be my thesis.  lol

we have designed all our houses.  i draw what and where i want it and david makes it fit.  we have also done all the physical work we can.  we had to have a plumber and electrician but the rest was us.  my dad was a builder so i have grown up with it.   at 85 he is still putting the lining timber boards under our verandas.  mum (age 89) and dad did their last renovation in 2011.  they are amazing  for their age.

Thank you, Darren and Rica!  Hate the disease, but love the friends I've made because of it.  And now, new adventures.  My organizational energies have moved from 'how to schedule all these pills' to 'how to get the best price on building materials'.  A pleasant change, for sure!

May your good luck continue

Yes, a big win indeed for a very lucky man ... and if he has any doubts about that, tell him supaguy says he's been very lucky indeed and won a supaprize in a supawoman. I hope that you will enjoy that supalife ahead of you to the full and not become bogged down with huge projects.

You story underlines something that has become apparent. That is that "Stuff" and various improvements seem to happen within the first year of starting treatment. I am glad for you and I am glad for all those lucky ones that got their lives back.  Not everyone is lucky.

For all your good work here at cpnhelp, may your good luck continue and may your life continue to be enriched by your new-found happiness. Best wishes to you both.

Smile

Thanks, SG.  I do know a few

Thanks, SG.  I do know a few here went backwards on the protocol and a couple were certain they were headed over the cliff, but it turned around for them, so I would say we all have a different experience on treatment.  Rica went years, flip-flopping back and forth, but very 'downhill' for a very long time at first.  Sometimes, dogged determination is what saves the day.

And I'm supa-aware, and supa-vigilant, about this disease.  I plan to do periodic rounds of the protocol, just to ensure nothing takes hold again.  Before, I didn't know what I didn't have.  Now, I realize how much I was missing in life, most all of my life, and I don't want to lose it.  (Flowers for Algernon keeps rearing its ugly head in my memory.)

No livestock allowed,

No livestock allowed, Homina! We'll get a shelter dog, though, once we have a house.

And no house for at least a year. (Bank foreclosure: the bank let the property decline, so the house is full of black mold and must be demolished (which we knew when we bought it).

Still, loads of energy to take on bunches of new challenges, so I'm one grateful lady.
