Azithromycin vs Telithromycin

Is there a big difference between these two in terms killing bugs ?

I understand that Telithromycin is newer, has perhaps a risk of liver damage, and needs to be taken daily as it has a shorter half-life than Azithromycin.

So maybe not as convenient as Azithromycin, but is it a better choice...or is there not much in it, or does it depend on an individuals response?

Many of us already have so many health problems that, given a choice between adding liver problems when they can be avoided, may push us in the direction of Azithromycin, from what you say here.  The other thing is that Azith is one of "our" drugs - long-term.  I have been on it and four others for almost seven years.  The only time I had problems was at the six month mark when I was still on Avonex, an interferon, and Rifampin and Doxyi.  Some months later I quit Avonex and have never had a problem since.

Telithromycin is supposed to be especially good at killing Cpni, even in the persistent state. Perhaps too good -- the liver damage that's been reported from it has been theorized by Dr. Stratton to possibly be the result of killing Cpn in the liver.
Okay, I'm intrigued. My question, since I know little about pharmaceuticals, is whether the liver damage occurs immediately, or over time. Is it worth it for someone WELL into the protocol, to maybe add it in for a week, a month, or more?

The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problems. Mohandas Gandhi

Boy -

EXACTLY what I am thinking.

The liver damage is quick -- a matter of days. That is, if it occurs at all; this is something that occurs seldom enough that it wasn't observed in clinical trials, but only after the drug was on the market and millions of prescriptions had been written for it. (Which actually weighs against the killing of Cpni being the cause of those liver failures; Cpn is more common than that.)
